Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — In the home opener of the 2017 season, No. 9 Campbellsville defeated Asbury University 7-2 at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
The win propels CU to a 5-0 record thus far before making a trip to defending national champion Georgia Gwinnett this weekend.
The Tigers swept all three doubles points to take a 3-0 match lead. The second-ranked doubles pair in the country,
Brendan Aguilar and
Chrys Castro, teamed up to win 8-4 over the Abraham brothers, Ty and Josh.
At No. 2 doubles,
Alejandro Reyes and
Adrian Sabrojo had little trouble with Julian Tellez and Josh Turnquest, 8-2. And at No. 3, Mario Belloni paired with
Zach Baulch to take down Deuece Gipson and Aquille Trotman, 8-3.
The lone two match wins for the Eagles came at Nos. 2 and 6 singles, respectively. Josh Abraham won 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 over Victor Alhbeck and Aquille Trotman won 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 over
Alex Spalding.
But the Tigers swept Asbury in straight-sets in the remaining four. Aguilar, who ranks No. 7 individually, defeated Josh Turnquest 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Reyes also pulled out a three-set victory, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
At Nos. 4 and 5, No. 9 Castro won 6-4, 6-3 and Sabrojo swept Gipson, 6-0, 6-0.
Campbellsville will now have a pair of tough matches this weekend in Lawrenceville, Ga. CU will play No. 16 William Woods University on Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m. and No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett on Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m.
