MOBILE, Ala. — With the completion of the Men's and Women's NCCAA Tennis Championship, Campbellsville learned it had five student-athletes be named All-Americans, the association announced this week.
On the men's side,
Victor Ahlbeck and Brandon Aguilar were both named First-Team All-Americans, while
Chrys Castro earned Second-Team honors.
On the women's side, it was
Kaede Amano being named to the First-Team, while
Majella Nobile was mentioned on the Second-Team.
Ahlbeck finished the year with the most singles wins and a record of 17-3. He finished 5-0 inside Mid-South Conference play and went 2-0 with four unfinished matches at the NCCAA Championship. Aguilar was right behind with a 13-3 record and went 2-1 at the national championship with one unfinished match.
The duo also paired together and went 15-1 overall on the season. The lone loss as a doubles team came in the national championship match on Friday afternoon vs. Oklahoma Baptist.
Castro went 13-4 in singles but was a doubles machine throughout the year. He finished with a 24-2 record overall, 5-0 inside MSC play, and played on the No. 1-seeded doubles team all year. In addition, Castro and partner
Alejandro Reyes went a perfect 5-0 at the NCCAA Championship by out-scoring their opponents 40-19 in five matches.
On the women's side, it was Amano finishing the season with a 12-4 overall record in singles and 18-5 in doubles. Nobile was 11-3 overall, 4-1 inside MSC play in singles and finished the year with a five-match win streak. In doubles, she teamed up with Amano throughout the year and went 17-5 overall.
In addition to the All-American awards, Aguilar and Reyes earned All-Tournament Singles Team and Castro and Reyes earned All-Tournament Doubles Team. Bolor Enkbayar and Amano earned All-Tournament Singles Team, while Amano and Nobile were named to the All-Tournament Doubles Team.
Both teams have qualified for the NAIA Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16. It is the second team in history the Tigers have played in the NAIA Championship and the first in program history for the Lady Tigers.
