Castro fights through extreme measures to push Tigers into #NAIATennis Championship Semifinal

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. — Campbellsville led 3-0 after doubles play but University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH)  rallied to tie the match at 4-all before Chrys Castro overcame heat and humidity to come from behind and win his No. 6-singles match, giving the Tigers a 5-4 win.

Castro had set point multiple times in the first, but lost 7-6 to get behind in the match. After flipping the result in the second set and winning 7-6, Castro's physical fitness played a major factor in the victory. His opponent, Ronnie Myburgh, started to cramp but Castro did let his fatigue show, winning 6-1 in the third set and pushing CU into the NAIA Championship Semifinals for the first time in program history.

Campbellsville will now look to pull the biggest upset of the year, as No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett awaits for the semifinal match tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. ET. The Grizzlies defeated William Woods, 5-0, on Thursday.

It was all Campbellsville in doubles, as Brendan Aguilar and Victor Ahlbeck set the tone with an 8-1 victory at No. 2s. After an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles by Alejandro Reyes and Chrys Castro, Adrian Sabrojo and Mario Belloni broke and held consecutive serves to tie their No. 3-singles match at four-all. The CU duo ended up getting behind once again but knotted their match at seven before breaking and holding serve for a second consecutive time to win, 9-8.

Now only needing two match wins to move into the semifinal, the Tigers started to struggle and UNOH rallied to score three of the next four team points in singles. Brendan Aguilar won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5 but that was all CU would get until Castro's heroics.

Mario Belloni lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2; Adrian Sabrojo lost 6-2, 6-1; Alejandro Reyes lost 7-6, 6-2 and Victor Ahlbeck lost in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Georgia Gwinnett and Campbellsville met earlier in the year on March 11 in Lawrenceville, Ga., but the Grizzlies won 7-0 with two unfinished singles matches.
