No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett ends No. 5 Campbellsville's season in NAIA Championship Semifinal

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. — No. 5 Campbellsville ran into a buzzsaw this morning, as top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett ended Campbellsville's hopes of an NAIA Tennis Championship by sweeping the Tigers in an hour and 37 minutes, 5-0.

The loss for CU ends the Tigers' season with a 26-5 record – all five losses come to Georgia Gwinnett (twice) No. 4 Lindsey Wilson, No. 16 William Woods and NCAA D2 Oklahoma Baptist in the NCCAA Championship final last week.

The semifinal appearance is the first-ever in CU tennis history, as the Tigers became just the fourth program to reach the NAIA semifinal round – women's basketball (2015 & 2017), men's basketball (2008 & 2016) and men's wrestling (2012 & 2017).

Today, though, CU just didn't have enough fire power after getting down 3-0 in doubles.

Chrys Castro and Alejandro Reyes lost at No. 1 doubles, 8-0, to the NAIA's top-ranked duo of  Kevin Konfederak and Gilad Berman. Adrian Sabrojo and Mario Belloni lost at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, to No. 17 Federico Herrera Duran & Rafael Coutinho. CU gave it a run at the second-seeded doubles, but Brendan Aguilar and Victor Ahlbeck lost, 8-3, to the seventh-ranked senior duo of Connor Clements and Jordan Cox.

Heading into singles with CU trailing, 3-0, Georgia Gwinnett continued its dominance with a 6-2, 6-0, win by No. 1 Konfederak over No. 5 Aguilar. The match was sealed on court six as Castro fell to No. 47 Coutinho, 6-0, 6-1.

The win for the Grizzlies clinched the fourth consecutive national championship appearance and a perfect 15-0 points vs. opponent total in the NAIA Championship this season. It is also the 54th straight win for GGC dating back to 2015.
