DEER PARK, Ill. — After a pair of preseason friendlies last week, Lady Tiger soccer starts their 2017 season on the road at Trinity International University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
Fans can watch the match, which is streamed on the Trinity International website. Also, live stats will be available inside the video link.
Campbellsville, who is led by coaching veteran
Thom Jones, is looking to recover after an 11-8-2 record last season. Although the lack-luster season, the Lady Tigers reached the NCCAA Championship for the second time in three years.
CU returned its NAIA All-American and captain,
Amanda Howard. Howard, a senior from Harrodsburg, Ky., holds the single-season saves record as a goalkeeper with 133, which was set in 2014. Howard (348) is 72 saves away from eclipsing Brandie Hagerman's career mark of 420, which was set from 2010-13.
In addition, the defense returns All Mid-South Conference performer
Rachel Seals and NCCAA All-American
Jordan Stallings.
The Lady Tiger defense pitched 15 shutouts in 2015 - which is a single-season record.
The biggest unknown for CU this season is scoring. The Lady Tigers netted only 36 goals last season compared to 75 in 2015 - the same year CU reached the NAIA Championship for the first time in program history.
CU returns its leading goal scorer from last season as
Lakin Walls delivered six goals.
Breanna Baptiste, who scored four goals in 2016, also returns after rehabbing a knee injury that she suffered in the final home match of the year.
Coach Jones has added much needed depth to the offense by adding speedy outside-mids like
Rachel Blumfeldt and
Sarah Johnston. In addition, fellow freshmen
Molly Hall and
Kiersten Clukey shined in both of the scrimmages last week.
Trinity International has already played a pair of matches - winning 1-0 over College of Saint Mary and a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Spring Arbor. The loan goal was scored by Jillian Kolster but the Trojans only got off one shot against Spring Arbor on Tuesday afternoon.
Last season, the Trojans finished 6-12-1 and 5-6-1 inside the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
