GEORGETOWN, Ky. —
Chrys Castro and
Alejandro Reyes teamed up to win the 2017 ITA Southeast Regional this weekend at the Lackey Tennis Center.
The doubles title is the second in CU tennis history as NAIA All-Americans Pablo Numbela and Carlos Anton won the ITA championship in 2010.
Castro and Reyes, who entered the tournament as the second-seed, captured the title away from top-seeded and reigning ITA Regional champions Denis Porcic and Ivan Solans Diaz of Lindsey Wilson College, 8-6.
Last season, Castro teamed up with
Brendan Aguilar and finished second at the ITA Regional. The duo earned an at-large bid and rallied in the ITA Championship to defeat Procic and Solans Diaz in the semifinal round and eventually finished runner-up behind Georgia Gwinnett's Jordan Cox and Kevin Konfederak.
The Tigers will now have two weeks before opening it's 2017-18 dual season vs. Indiana University East on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
With the regional championship, Castro and Reyes earned the automatic bid to the ITA Oracle Club in Roma, Ga. On Oct. 11-15.
