Last time out, Campbellsville dropped an 82-64 contest on the road against Life University to move to 0-3 in the MSC. The Tigers are the only conference team without a victory this season; however, they are the only team in the conference to face four-straight teams ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in the NAIA national poll to start 2018.
Against the Running Eagles,
Tim Coleman and
Jalen Coates were the only two players for Campbellsville to reach double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. The Tigers set season lows in points (64), field goals attempted (55), made field goals (22) and first half points (27) in its loss at Life this past Saturday.
Hagen Tyler is the leading scorer for Campbellsville with 14.6 points per game and Coleman is just behind with 13.9 points a game and has a team best 75 assists.
Andrew Smith is also averaging over 13 points per game, while also leading the Tigers with 8.1 rebounds a game – despite grabbing just five rebounds in the two games last week. However, within the first three conference games this season,
Adam Stanford has been the team's leading scorer with 14 points per game against MSC foes.
Pikeville has dropped its last two games to slip to 16-2 this season and 1-2 in the Mid-South. Despite losing its last two games, the Bears are second in the NAIA with a scoring margin of plus-30.7 and field goal percentage of 53.4 percent. Darrion Leslie leads Pikeville with 13.9 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. Leslie also has a team-best 66 assist and he ranks second in the nation with a field goal percentage of 66.0 percent. Jayvian Delacruz and Jordan Perry join Leslie in averaging 13 points per game with 13.7 and 13.3 points, respectively.
The Bears are set to play just their third true road game of the season on Thursday night for just one of two sets of back-to-back road games. Pikeville won its first road game of the year at Bluefield College, 88-67, but lost to then-ranked No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College, 68-65, in their last game. The only other time the Bears play two road games back-to-back comes at Cumberland University (Feb. 10) and then at Georgetown College (Feb. 15).
The all-time series between Campbellsville and Pikeville is led by the Bears winning 62 of the 109 meetings since the 1964-65 season. Pikeville has won eight of the last nine matchups, including the last five in a row. The last time the Tigers beat the Bears came at home on Nov. 22, 2014 with Campbellsville earning a 99-78 win at the Powell Athletic Center.
