No. 12 Men’s Wrestling drops tight 21-18 contest to No. 8 Southeastern on Senior Night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Campbellsville's men's wrestling team suffered a 21-18 loss to eighth-ranked Southeastern University on Senior Night inside the Campbellsville University Wrestling Gym.
 
After taking an 18-12 lead late in the dual, the Tigers (7-7, 1-2 Mid-South Conference) lost the final two matches of the dual en route to the Fire (9-5, 2-2 MSC) picking up the 21-18 victory.
 
Southeastern took an early advantage in the dual winning the first two matches via decisions. Olson Delisca (No. 5 at 125 pounds) took a 10-3 decision over Jordan Martinez (ranked 18th at 125 pounds) to put the Fire on top 3-0. At 133 pounds, Ethan Owen (ranked No. 8 at 133 pounds) edged Kolten Radaz in a narrow 7-5 decision.
 
On Senior Night, senior Jayce Carr (ranked eighth at 141 pounds) got Campbellsville's first win of the night with a 3-1 decision against Marcus Macias to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Fire.
 
Southeastern got back in the win column after Kyle Kirkham notched a 10-5 decision over David Sparks. In the 157-pound match, Calieb Ray picked up a medical default victory against Evyn Insalaco (ranked 19th at 157 pounds), which tied the dual at nine points apiece.
 
The Fire regained the lead in the next bout with Matt Cates beating L.J. Henderson in a 9-4 decision. Trailing 12-9 in the dual, Southeastern forfeited the 174-pound match and Justin Brown picked up six points for the Tigers en route to Campbellsville taking its first lead of the night at 15-12.
 
At 184 pounds, Chuck Sharon notched a 10-3 decision to increase the Tiger lead to six points heading into the final two matches of the night.
 
In a tightly contest match at 197 pounds, Nate Cleland grabbed a 4-1 decision over Jacob Franklin to cut Campbellsville's lead to 18-15 heading into the final match of the night.
 
Nate Jackson represented the Tigers at 285 pounds, while Aris Knight wrestled for the Fire.  Jackson made a quick move to try earn two points on a takedown early in the contest, but Knight avoided the takedown and turned the tables. Knight picked up a pin one minutes and 52 seconds into the match securing a 21-18 victory for Southeastern.
 
Prior the dual, the Tiger wrestling program honored its five graduating seniors in Carr, Henderson, Brown, Sharon and Franklin. The quintet competed in the their final events at home on Thursday night.
 
Campbellsville returns to action next Thursday at 8 p.m. ET against No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky.
