Martinez, Radaz and Diemer capture first-place finishes at Cumberland Open on Sunday

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Campbellsville men's wrestling team had three grapplers win individual titles at Cumberland Open on Sunday to finish off its final tournament of the regular season.

The trio of Jordan Martinez, Kolten Radaz and Michael Diemer went a combined 11-0 en route to winning the titles at 125, 133 and 149 pounds, respectively.

Martinez started the tournament with an 8-1 decision over Stephen Gordy – who was wrestling unattached – and then he captured his second-straight 8-1 decision against Life University's Stephen Moreno. Martinez continued to roll through the 125-pound bracket and earned a 16-0 technical fall against Darius Ragin of Allen University.

In the championship match, Martinez capped off his perfect afternoon with an 11-4 decision against Michael Sergent of Lindsey Wilson College.

Over Radaz's four matches, he only gave up six total points with three coming in the finals. Radaz won a 9-0 major decision against Mikael Codinach and then upset Reinhardt University's Triston Blansit (No. 17 at 133 pounds), 9-2. Looking to make an appearance in the finals, he edged Brewton-Parker College's Immanuel Henderson, 3-1. In the finals at 133 pounds, he controlled the match late against Allen's Randy McCary in a 10-3 decision victory.

In the 149-pound weight class, Diemer had a bye in the first round and needed just two wins to earn a spot in the championship match. He first shutout University of the Cumberlands' Steven Novak, 4-0, and beat Dimitri Alicea of Life, 5-1, to enter the championship bout. In the finals, Diemer got out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 9-3 decision against Cumberland University's Tanner Tidswell to win the 149-pound title.

Tombola Sindihebura posted a 4-1 record on Sunday and placed third at 141 pounds. To start the day, he won a 12-6 decision against Ian Clark and then pinned Reinhardt's Warren Wilson 3:47 into the match. In the championship semifinals, Brandon Weber of Cumberland edged Sindihebura, 5-3. Moving into the consolation rounds, he got back on the winning track with a 10-8 decision against Miles Parramore.

Sindihebura entered the third-place match against Reinhardt's Kalvin Harris – who is ranked seventh in the 141-pound weight class. Trailing 1-0 entering the third period, Sindihebura scored seven-straight points to complete the upset, 7-1, and place third in the weight class.

Michael Beets placed fourth in the 125-pound weight class and was one win away from making it an all Campbellsville final in the weight division. Beets first edged his first two opponents of the day winning 6-4 over Dylan Evans of Life and then 6-3 against Cumberland's Dominic Robles. In the semifinals, Beets saw his run to the championship halted after a 19-8 loss to Sergent.

In the consolation bracket at 125 pounds, Beets squeaked by Evans for the second time on Sunday with a 7-6 contest to earn a spot in the third-place match. Beets placed fourth overall after falling 6-3 to Gordy in his final match of the day.

Aaron Rugnao alternated wins and losses in the 133-pound weight class en route to a 2-2 mark. He first beat Walton Trey in a 7-5 decision, but moved into the consolation bracket after dropping a 3-1 decision to McCary. Rugnao earned a 16-1 technical fall win against Codinach, but Rugnao saw his day come to a close after dropping a narrow 3-1 SV-1 decision to Cumberlands' John Williams.

Nate Jackson dropped into the the elimination bracket after he dropped a tight 4-3 TB-1 decision to Jose Carrillo-Garcia of Brewton-Parker to start the 285-pound bracket. Jackson stayed alive after pinning Brewton-Parker's Robert Smith just 43 seconds into the match.

Jackson moved to 2-1 at the open after an 8-2 decision over Devin Morrow from Cumberlands. In his second overtime match of the day, Jackson saw his tournament come to a close after losing a 5-3 SV-1 contest to Aaron Johnson – who was wrestling unattached.

Christian Shelby joined Diemer at 149 pounds, where Shelby posted a 1-2 mark following an opening round bye. Shelby got off to a strong start after pinning Esteban Remilliard late in the third period of his opening match. He was then sent into the wrestlebacks after dropping a 19-4 technical fall to Tidswell. Shelby ended the open with a 14-4 major decision loss to Novak.

Calieb Ray posted near similar results to Shelby after representing the Tigers in the 157-pound division. After a first-round bye, Ray pinned Anderson Toe of Allen, before suffering an 11-7 setback to Cody Huston. In a tight 4-3 decision against Jeremy Gardner, Ray was on the short end of the score to finish the Cumberland Open at 1-2 and just missed earning a spot in the third-place match.

Campbellsville returns to action on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET against rival and No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson College in the Battle of Highway 55 at Biggers Sports Center.
