FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 11th-ranked Campbellsville men's wrestling team rebounded during its second dual of the NWCA-NAIA National Duals and defeated William Penn University, 49-3, to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.
The Tigers (5-3) scored 49-unsawnered points en route to the victory and picked up five pins in the dual.
After
Jordan Martinez dropped the opening match of the dual to Jeremy Andjuar in a SV-1 13-11 contest, Campbellsville got rolling and won the final nine matches of the dual.
Kolten Radaz started the run for the Tigers and flipped a 9-2 deficit in the third period to a victory via pin 5:49 into the match.
Jayce Carr (ranked eighth at 141 pounds) defeated Tyshon Cannon in an 11-3 major decision to put the Tigers on top, 10-3.
Campbellsville picked up three-straight victories via first period pins.
David Sparks pinned Tommy Rios 2:50 into the 149-pound match and then just 1:39 into the 157-pound bout,
Michael Diemer pinned Johnny Hopper. The run was capped off with
L.J. Henderson pinning Dylan Comstock just 46 seconds into the match at 165 pounds.
Justin Brown (ranked No. 2 at 174 pounds) extended the Tiger lead to 31-3 after earning a 7-1 decision over Jason Beebe.
The Statesman (1-4) forfeited the 184-pound match, which was followed by
Jacob Franklin pinning Cody Jones with less than a minute left in the first period of the 197-pound match. The dual came to a close after William Penn forfeited the 285-pound match and Campbellsville picked up a 49-3 victory.
The Tigers cap off the first day of the national duals at 5 p.m. ET in the second round of the consolation bracket. Campbellsville is set to take on the loser of University of Providence and Missouri Valley College dual at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
