CU Hits The Road For Weekend Tournament At Faulkner University To Face Voorhees And Point

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger men's basketball will return to regular season play this weekend as CU will head to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Faulkner University Classic on Friday and Saturday.

First on Friday, Campbellsville will play in the first game of the day as they take on Voorhees College at 6:00 p.m. ET. Then on Saturday, the Tigers will play Point University, again in the first game of the day at 2:00 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
After leading six times and hitting 10 three-pointers in the first half, the Tigers couldn't keep up with WKU for a full 40 minutes as the Hilltoppers won the exhibition 91-66 Tuesday night at the E.A. Diddle Arena. Hagen Tyler scored a team-high 19 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Stephaun Adams added 17 points to be the only other CU player in double figures for the game.

In their last regular season contest, also their first regular season contest, the Tigers rolled past Kentucky Christian by a score of 95-66. Adams scored 29 in his CU debut and Tyler added 23. After starting a bit slow, Campbellsville ended the first half on 20-3 run including a 9-0 run in the last minutes and 12 seconds.

Scouting VC
Voorhees College has won their first two games of the season, first their opener against Wilberforce University 88-81 then they beat Point University in a high-scoring contest by the same seven-point margin 107-100.

SCOUTING POINT
The Skyhawks have started their season 0-2 so far with losses against Thomas University and CU's first opponent Voorhees. Point is averaging 89 points per game and allowing 93.5 points per game early this season. Their leading scorer is B.J. Brown, who is averaging 20 point per game.

Tournament season
Early season college basketball means tournaments, both on the road and at home for the Tigers. Including this week's Faulkner Classic, CU will host two of their own tournaments in November and travel to two more in December during non-conference play.

Top Ten For Tyler
Senior Guard Hagen Tyler entered the top-10 in scoring all-time in CU history Monday night against Kentucky Christian. Tyler passed Jeff Gumm (1980-84), on his 10th point Monday and finished the night moving his career point total to 1,383. Tyler has a legitimate chance at reaching top-five in CU history for points, needing to reach 1,724 after averaging over 450 points per season in his first three seasons.

Quality First Impressions
Five newcomers saw the floor for the Tigers in Monday's opener against Kentucky Christian. CU was led by Stephaun Adams who led all players in points (29) and assists (5). Other newcomers for Campbellsville had big numbers in some categories as Ronald Taylor had 15 points, Calvin Fletcher led the team in rebounds with eight, Joan Duran added six rebounds and Sam Weining added five points off the bench.

NEARING THE TOP 25
CU's Tigers begin this season exactly where they ended last season in the NAIA Coaches Poll, receiving votes. Campbellsville earned 20 points in the preseason poll, released on Oct. 23, with only three teams outside of the top-25 receiving more votes than the Tigers. CU will hope to break into the top-25 within the first in-season poll much like they did last year when they went 10-1 to move into the 21st spot.

EARLY HOME COOKING
Outside of their exhibition game against Western Kentucky on Oct. 30, CU will play seven of their first 10 games through the month of November at home at the Powell Athletic Center. Four of those games will be played as part of two CU hosted tournaments, the Lou Cunningham Classic (Nov. 16-17) and the Campbellsville Classic (Nov. 23-24). The three road games will all come in early November against Voorhees and Point at the Faulkner University Classic (Nov. 2-3) then at Lindenwood-Belleville on Nov. 10.

DEEP MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE
Though the Tigers have the 28th most points in the NAIA coaches poll, four Mid-South Conference teams rank ahead of them in the preseason. Campbellsville was also picked to tie for fourth in the MSC by the Mid-South coaches in their preseason poll, tying with Lindsey Wilson with 29 points and behind Georgetown (47), Pikeville (45) and Cumberlands (34). The three teams ahead of CU and Lindsey Wilson are also all in the top 25 in the NAIA to start the season as Georgetown is ranked 4th, Pikeville is ranked 8th, Cumberlands is ranked 16th and Lindsey Wilson barely sneaked into the top 25 at 25th.

HOME GAMES ON CU SPORTS NETWORK
All Tiger basketball home games will be streamed on the CU Sports Network on campbellsvilletigers.com as well as the home games in the Mid-South Conference schedule being aired on WLCU-TV. Even if anyone won't be able to make it out to the Powell Athletic Center for CU home games, you can watch the Tigers play all of their home games for free on our athletics website. New this season on the CU Sports Network will be the inclusion of four-camera broadcasts as we attempt to bring a more in-depth, professional broadcast feel to basketball games during the 2018-19 season.

MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE Teams Starting up
After about a week of play, Mid-South Conference teams have only lost two times in 11 games of regular season play. The losses came from two of the conference's ranked teams as No. 25 Lindsey Wilson lost to (RV) Harris-Stowe State University on Oct. 27 and No. 16 Cumberlands (Ky.) lost to Indiana University Southeast on Oct. 30. No. 8 Pikeville, Cumberland (Tenn.) and No. 4 Georgetown all already have two wins in this young season.
