No. 14 Tigers rout No. 17 Brewton-Parker in Mid-South Conference dual opener

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Campbellsville University men's wrestling picked up its first dual win of the year on Thursday night as the 14th-ranked Tigers took down No. 17 Brewton-Parker College, 33-13.

The Tigers had a pair of ranked grapplers competing last night and both won. Jordan Martinez, No. 5 at 125 lbs., took down Ryan Rubenacker with a 16-0 tech fall. Also, No. 13 Michael Diemer earned a 9-1 major decision over Douglas Peppers.

Brewton-Parker (0-2), which also lost in a dual against University of the Cumberlands last night, also had two ranked grapplers that picked up wins. The fourth-ranked wrestler at 165 lbs., Nate Pristavec, moved up one weight class and took down Mahlic Sallah with a major decision, 12-1. And No. 7 Brooks Climmons defeated Aaron Mosley, 10-8.

Outside of a forfeit at 149 lbs., that was the only scoring the Barons were able to muster against Campbellsville.

After Martinez gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead, Marvin Galette picked up his first-career dual win, a 6-4 decision of Lucas Nelson, to give CU an 8-0 advantage.

At 151 lbs., Aaron Rugnao pinned Gamal Lawton and the rout was on from there. After the 149lb forfeit, Diemer gave the Tigers four-more points and Raymond Williams pinned Michael Long to put CU ahead, 24-6.

The Barons earned seven points between Pristavec and Climmons but the Tigers closed out the dual with two wins at 197 and 285. Kevin Schantz earned a forfeit win at 197 lbs. and Ashton Mutuwa, the reigning MSC Wrestler of the Week, earned a 1-0 decision over Chandler Butler at 285.

The road gets a little harder for the Tigers as they square off with No. 18 Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Wrestling begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.
