Lady Tiger soccer begins quest for NCCAA title on Monday afternoon vs. Ottawa

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The 2018 NCCAA Women's Soccer Championship gets underway with the first of three pool play games. Campbellsville University, which earned the No. 5-seed, will have a tough test to start the tournament facing No. 4-seed Ottawa University on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers and Spirit kickoff for the first time in program history at 2:30 p.m. ET and fans can follow the action with live stats on the CU Sports Network and live video on the NCCAA Network. Links are posted above.

Pool play games begins on Monday, Nov. 26 and the championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1. The tournament is once again being played at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex.

Campbellsville enters the championship with a 13-8 record and got here by winning its first NCCAA Mid-East Regional title over Hiwassee College, 12-0, on Nov. 16.

Ottawa made the field of eight as the winners of the West Region. The Spirit finished the regular season with an 11-5-2 overall record and they are scoring 2.72 goals per game while recording a 1.08 goals-against-average.

At last season's National Championship, the Spirit entered the 9-team field as the No. 8-seed. They finished 0-2 with losses to Concordia Ann Arbor and SAGU.

Campbellsville is playing in its first NCCAA Championship Tournament for the first time since 2016. In that tournament, the Lady Tigers went 1-1-1 – their lone win came to Central Christian College of Kansas, 2-1.

In 2015, CU reached the NAIA Championship but in 2014, the Lady Tigers made a big run through the NCCAA. CU defeated Point University, 3-1, and Houghton College in overtime, 2-1, to reach the semifinal round for the first time in program history. But Campbellsville lost to Lee University, 3-0.

The Lady Tigers are led in scoring by Lakin Walls and Molly Hall. Both strikers have 19 goals – which is third on the all-time single-season list. CU is averaging 3.6 goals this season, while allowing only 1.4.

Walls and Hall both were named All-Conference performers and Walls picked up CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career.

Ottawa University, from Surprise, Arizona, is led in scoring by Sydnee Busby's 17 goals in 18 games. She also has nine assists for a combined 43 points this season.

In goal, Ottawa has had four individuals see action, but Emily Kriplean and Addison Riddle have seen the most action with 37 and 29 saves, respectively.
