Tiger wrestling cruises to a 43-3 dual victory over St. Andrews University in home opener

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was nearly a perfect night for Campbellsville men's wrestling Friday night as the Tigers defeated St. Andrews 43-3 in their dual.

The highlight of the night came in back-to-back matches as the ends of the 165 lbs. match and the 174 lbs. match ended about one minute apart from each other.

The 165 lbs. match between CU's Raymond Williams and St. Andrews' Chase Payne went down to the final seconds as Williams earned a 10-9 as Williams was awarded his final point with one second left on the clock.

At 174 lbs. had one of the quicker endings in wrestling as No. 17 Mahlic Sallah for the Tigers earned a pin victory over Jonathan Zafra for the Knights. The pin came under a minute into the first period with the gym still buzzing after the ending of the previous match.

Prior to the 165 lbs. match, Campbellsville dominated St. Andrews earning two tech falls, two major decisions and a pin victory to jump out to a 24-0 lead early on in the dual.

No. 4 Jordan Martinez (125), No. 8 Marvin Galette (133), Aaron Rugnao (141), No. 6 Jaedin Sklapsky (149), No. 17 Michael Diemer (157), No. 20 Aaron Mosley (184) all won their matches. After CU's Kevin Schantz at 197 earned a forfeit victory the Tigers then had a 43-0 lead with one match remaining.

The Knights earned their only victory of the night by decision at the 285 lbs. weight class as SAU's Aaron Vaughan defeated No. 12 Ashton Mutuwa of the Tigers by a 4-3 decision to close out the match.

Campbellsville will now have a week of practice before heading to the Indiana Tech Warrior Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Dec. 8. The Tigers will face four different teams in duals, Indiana Tech, Marian University, Lourdes University and Oklahoma City University.
