FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A busy Saturday for the Campbellsville men's wrestling concluded with the Tigers finishing with one win and two losses at the Indiana Tech Warrior Duals.
CU fell to both ranked opponents they faced in No. 2 Indiana Tech and No. 18 Marian University as their win came against Lourdes University.
The win over Lourdes was a dominant one for the Tigers as they only dropped one match in their 40-3 victory. CU picked up three six-point victories, two forfeits and a pin victory by
Kevin Schantz at the 197 lbs. weight class.
Marian's victory over Campbellsville came by a score of 27-9 as the Tigers were only able to get team points from three matches.
Against Indiana Tech, the Warriors won 23-11 but the matches were all much closer than they appeared. All but two matches in the dual were won by decisions with four one-point decisions and a two-point decision.
Individually,
Ashton Mutuwa was the only wrestler for the Tigers to win all of his matches on the day as he defeated Indiana Tech's Joseph Chacon by tech fall 18-0, Marian's Seth Abad by decision 3-1 and Derek Elrod of Lourdes by decision 9-2. The No. 12 ranked wrestler in the 285 lbs. weight class improved his dual record greatly in one day, moving from 1-2 to 4-2.
No other CU wrestler was able to pick up more than one victory outside of forfeits but the Tigers as a team were able to win twice at the 157 lbs. weight class.
Chandler Woenker defeated Jon Watkins of Indiana Tech by decision 5-4 and
Michael Diemer won against Garrett Carter of Lourdes by decision 5-2.
Against Indiana Tech, CU's
Calieb Ray earned a victory over a ranked foe in the 165 lbs. weight class. Ray won by decision over No. 19 Hunter Gasper of the Warriors by a score of 6-4.
Two other Tiger wrestlers also earned victories over ranked opponents in the dual against Marian.
Jaedin Sklapsky defeated the 15
th ranked 149 lbs. wrestler in Bailey Moore by decision 7-5 and
Aaron Mosley won against Alston Bane who is the 18
th ranked wrestler at the 184 lbs. weight class.
CU men's wrestling is scheduled for another multi-dual meet next weekend as they will compete in the Smoky Mountain Duals at Pigeon Forge, Tenn. next Sunday. The Tigers will face off against Lyon College, Life University, Midway University and Reinhardt University.
