COLUMBIA, Ky. – Campbellsville's men's wrestling dropped a rivalry dual to ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 24-12, on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.
The Tigers (7-8, 1-3 Mid-South Conference) got wins from
Jayce Carr,
David Sparks and
Chuck Sharon, but it was not enough as the Blue Raiders (7-2, 5-0 MSC) won the remaining seven bouts.
Lindsey Wilson got off on the front foot with Chad Lampe (No. 15 at 125 pounds) earning an 11-5 decision over
Jordan Martinez (No. 18 at 125 pounds). The Blue Raiders took an early 6-0 lead in the dual after Brady Moser (No. 11 at 133 pounds) edged
Aaron Rugnao in an 8-5 decision.
Carr (ranked seventh at 141 pounds) got Campbellsville on the winning track with a 16-11 decision. Carr looked to pin Lucas McCain early in the match, but McCain battled back within five points to limit the team points for the Tigers.
Cam Tessari (ranked No. 1 at 157 pounds) moved down to 157, where he shutout
Michael Diemer to earn a 6-0 decision. Sparks got the Tigers back in the win column with a late two-point move in the 157-pound match to beat Bryce Hoffman, 5-4.
Brett Bradford grabbed a 17-0 technical fall over
L.J. Henderson to push the Blue Raider lead to 14-6. In a top-10 match at 174 pounds, No. 6 Colton Gonzalez and No. 4
Justin Brown went into over time all tied at four, but Gonzalez took down Brown with less than a minute left in the first overtime period to earn the victory.
Sharon grabbed bonus points for Campbellsville as he registered the only pin of the dual. Sharon – who is ranked No. 2 at 184 pounds – pinned Kohl Dodd 5:53 into the match, which pulled the Tigers within five points.
At 197 pounds,
Jacob Franklin dropped an 8-0 major decision to Corey Hinkle and Lindsey Wilson locked up the dual with just one bout to go.
To round out the dual,
Nate Jackson lost a narrow 6-3 decision to Brandon Reed (ranked No. 9 at 285 pounds) as the Blue Raiders won the dual, 24-12.
Campbellsville now heads to Lebanon, Tennessee for its final two Mid-South Conference duals of the season against No. 6 Life University and Cumberland University on Saturday afternoon.
