Service errors haunt Tigers in straight set loss to Cincinnati Christian

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The last five matches for Campbellsville have all ended in sweeps and tonight wasn't any different but the Tigers were on the wrong end of a 3-0 loss to Cincinnati Christian.

The Tigers fell in straight sets, 25-17, 26-24, 26-24, and drop to 4-6 overall on the season and 1-2 inside Mid-South Conference play.

Cincinnati Christian (6-5, 2-1 MSC) was led by Logan Webber's 21 kills – which is his third 20-plus kill match of the season. Webber was the go-to attacker tonight for the Eagles by totaling 42 attacks and hit .333.

The height at the front of the net gave CU problems all night, as Webber stands at 6-foot-9 and Phillip Andrews at 6-foot-7. Andrews finished with 11 kills for the Eagles. The duo totaled five blocks, but it was Nick Richard with six to lead all players.

Rafael Cruz led CU with 14 kills, while Stefan Sretenovic tallied nine.

Campbellsville was forced to call timeouts early in the opening set after Cincinnati Christian went ahead, 9-5 and 15-10. The Tigers fell victim to six service errors in the first set to fall, 25-17.

The second set was all Cincinnati Christian until Campbellsville made a run midway through. The Tigers cut the deficit to one, 15-14, but the Eagles answered with a mini 3-1 run and forced Coach Billy Gregory to call a timeout.

The Tigers swung right back to tie the set at 22-all, but a pair of service errors wreaked havoc on the comeback, giving CCU the set, 26-24.

Campbellsville dominated the beginning stages of set three. Diego Romero turned the serving luck around with three consecutive service aces to star the set, but the Tigers only finished with four all night – Stefan Sretenovic finished with the other.

After the aces by Romero, CU took a 13-6 lead and hit .600 in that span. The Eagles didn't let that last, though, rallying with a 7-2 run and cutting the Tigers advantage to two, 15-13.

Another CU timeout didn't even cool the hot hands of the Eagles and CCU extended its run to 9-2 and ended the set with by out-scoring the Tigers 20-9 to claim the sweep.

Campbellsville will now hit the road for St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 17. First serve goes up at 11 a.m. ET.
