Lady Tiger softball opens season at Grand Park Sports Complex vs. Calumet College of St. Joseph

WESTFIELD, Ind. — It wouldn't be softball and baseball season without a few schedule changes to start the year. Lady Tiger softball learned it would not be traveling south for Opening Weekend but instead would be heading north to Indiana.
 
After cancelling the Martin Methodist Meltdown in Pulaski, Tenn., No. 12 Campbellsville has added a doubleheader with Calumet College of St. Joseph on Sunday, Feb. 18. First pitch of the 2018 season is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET with the second game starting at approximately 2 p.m.

Scouting Calumet College of St. Joseph
Calumet enters the season after going 12-35 last season and 7-17 inside the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
The Crimsonwave, who are led by third year head coach Dave Lopez, return their second-best hitter from last season, Geena Locicero. She hit .324 in 2017 with three home runs and a team-leading 26 RBI. Melanie Pabon tallied a .296 batting average and led the team with four home runs and second in RBI with 21.
 
In the circle, Calumet returns ace Alyssa Sansone. She finished with a 3.98 ERA and a 9-13 record last season. Sansone tossed 17 complete games in 20 starts, while striking out 69. She's flanked by Claire Schapker who appeared in 20 games last season and finished with a 5.44 ERA.
 
Overall, the Crimsonwave were out-scored by their opponents 270-143 in 2017.
 
Lady Tigers look to continue tradition.... 
Campbellsville, led by 15-year head coach Shannon Wathen, finished the season ranked No. 19 but enters the 2018 season at No. 12 in the preseason poll. The Lady Tigers earned 285 voting points from national raters and are starting the season ranked in the Top 15 for the third straight season.
 
Overall, the Lady Tigers are faced with another packed schedule with 14 games scheduled against Preseason Top 25 teams or opponents receiving votes in the Coaches' Poll.
 
The Lady Tigers are returning seven starters, including Neely Quint and Morgan Gailor in the circle. The duo is joined by sophomore, Mia Aldridge, and freshman, Karson Williams from South Warren High School.
 
Quint finished 2017 with record of 19-7 and a 2.48 ERA, gaining her First-Team All-Conference honors. Gailor backed her up with a 12-6 record and 3.51 ERA, while earning a Second-Team All-Conference mention.
 
For the second-straight season Jacqueline Roof was named an NAIA All-American and MSC Player of the Year. Roof ended the year hitting .433, driving in 51 runs and hitting 13 home runs. She also slugged .784, held an on-base-percentage of .507.
 
Sophomore Tori Humphrey is looking to continue her success after being named MSC Freshmen of the Year and leading the Lady Tigers by hitting .450. Humphrey was also named an NFCA First Team All-American.
 
In the outfield, CU is led by senior Brianna Scott and sophomore Mia Aldridge. Scott, a career .318 batter, has hit 27 career home runs - 15 of them her sophomore season - and drove in a career-high 61 RBI during that campaign.
 
As a freshman, Aldridge hit .327 as a freshman last season with six home runs and 27 RBI.
 
In addition, catcher Rebecca Miller, a career .314 hitter, is seeking a comeback season after fighting injuries that past two years. After hitting .378 and driving in 33 runs her sophomore year, Miller worked her way through injuries to hit .284 last season.
