KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Campbellsville men's swimming team finished with a 133 total points at the three-day Mid-South Conference Championships to place sixth overall in the field.
Lindenwood University-Belleville won the conference championship for the third-straight season after beating second place University of the Cumberlands by 50 total points.
Tucker Hardin placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and
Alex Meade was just behind in seventh place as the duo posted times of 18:32.98 and 18:42.20, respectively, in their heat. In the overall standings, Hardin finished 12th and Meade was 13th overall.
Matthew Monday represented Campbellsville in the 200-yard backstroke after completing the race in a 10th-place finishing time of 2:02.02, which qualified for the B finals. Monday's prelim time was just 0.01 seconds off the national bonus cut.
Looking to improve on his preliminary time in the finals, Monday finished fifth in the B finals – 11th overall – with a time of 2:04.46.
RJ Harris was the lone Tiger in the 100-yard freestyle, where he finished 21st overall with a time of 50.43. Harris missed hitting the national B cut by just 0.43 seconds.
Seth Jones became the first Campbellsville individual to qualify for the championship finals after he placed sixth in the preliminary heats of the 200-yard breaststroke. Jones' time of 2:14.04 qualified as the national bonus cut.
Justin Spalding earned the last spot in the B finals after placing 12th with a time of 2:26.47.
Rounding out the Tigers in the breaststroke, was
Brandon Bagwell – who was the first person on the outside of the final qualifying positions. Bagwell completed the race in 2:28.47 to place 13th in the field.
Jones remained sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke as he finished with a time of 2:14.22, while Spalding rounded out the event in 12th with mark of 2:25.34.
Both
Josh Provost (2.06.16) and
Austin Tucker (2:31.09) moved on to the B finals of the 200-yard butterfly and finished ninth and 12th in the morning session. In the consolation finals, the pair held on to their positions in the field where Provost finished in 2:07.46 and Tucker recorded a time of 2:30.87.
The lone relay of the day featured Harris, Hardin, Spalding and Provost finishing the 400-yard freestyle relay in eighth place with a time of 3:22.86 to grab 10 points for the Tigers.
Campbellsville wraps up its season at the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Georgia starting on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
