Lady Tiger softball opens Gulf Coast Invitational on Friday with Central Methodist and Thomas

GULF SHORES, Ala. — After sweeping Bryan College on Tuesday afternoon, Lady Tiger softball traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the 2018 Gulf Shores Invitational.
 
Campbellsville, which started 6-0 on the season, will play a trio of games out of Pool 4. CU opens the GCI on Friday afternoon with Central Methodist University and Thomas University with the doubleheader starts at 4:45 p.m. ET.
 
CU will also play its final Pool Play game on Saturday at 12:15 ET vs. Brewton Parker College. The Pool Winners will advance on to a bracket-style championship, which is played on Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a pair of 6-2 wins over Bryan College on Tuesday. Tori Humphrey had a huge day at the plate, tallying three doubles, a triple and belted her second home run of the season. In addition, Humphrey drove in four of the 12 total runs. Brianna Scott tallied two doubles in game one and had a single in game two, while driving in three runs herself. Alexis Smith also parked her second homer of the season in the first inning of game one.
 
Neely Quint earned the victory in the first game, tossing a complete-game five-hitter. Quint allowed two runs – one earned – and struck out four to earn her third win of the season.
 
Morgan Gailor also improved to 3-0 after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out four. In three starts – four appearances in total – Gailor has yet to give up an earned run.
 
Last season, the Lady Tigers went a perfect 3-0 in Pool Play with wins over Middle Georgia State (9-0), No. 9 Morningside (4-3) and Concordia (Mich.) (10-2). CU went on to beat No. 13 Georgia Gwinnett (9-6) and Thomas University (4-2) in the bracket-style championship but lost to Columbia College 12-1 in the finals.
 
Humphrey leads the Lady Tigers by hitting .500 (10-of-20) and is tied with Ryleigh Oldham for the team-lead in home runs (2). Smith leads CU with 10 RBI, while Humphrey has nine and Oldham has seven.
 
Overall, the Lady Tigers outscore opponents, 64-17 and CU is averaging 10 runs per game.
