COLUMBUS, Ga. – After just missing out on scoring points during the first day of the NAIA National Championships, Campbellsville's men's swimming team scored in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay on Thursday at the Columbus Aquatics Center.
The Tigers now sit in 17th place with four points heading into the third day of competition. Day three begins at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, followed by the finals at 5 p.m. ET.
Starting the day in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Josh Provost,
Justin Spalding,
Tucker Hardin and
RJ Harris qualified for the finals in 16th overall to earn the final qualifying spot with a time of 1:30.53.
During the evening finals, the quartet held in the 16th spot and cut half a second off of their preliminary time with a 1:30.09 in the final. With the 16th-place finish, Campbellsville scored its first points of the meet.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the Tigers qualified for their second final of the day with a 15th-place finish with a time of 3:38.10.
Matthew Monday,
Seth Jones, Provost and Harris swam over a second faster than their qualifying time of 3:39.67.
Heading into the final event of the second day, Monday, Jones, Provost and Harris slipped one spot to 16th after posting a finals time of 3:38.28. However, Campbellsville still picked up two points for the second time on Thursday night.
All six swimmers that competed for the Tigers on Thursday night are underclassmen with Provost, Spalding and Monday swimming their freshmen seasons. Jones, Harris and Hardin are all in their sophomore campaigns.
Second-year program Keiser University leads the championship with 211 points and Olivet Nazarene University is second with 207.5 points. Lindenwood University-Belleville leads all Mid-South Conference institutions with 131 points and sits in fourth.
Action on Friday features the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke.
Competition resumes on Friday morning at 9 a.m. ET with preliminary heats and the final heats are set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
