Sharon and Brown move on to national semifinals; Martinez also earns All-American honors

DES MOINES, Iowa – Three Tigers are still alive after the second session of the NAIA National Championships, with Justin Brown and Chuck Sharon are competing in the national semifinals on Saturday at the Jacobsen Exhibition Center.
 
Jordan Martinez joins Brown and Sharon in competition on Saturday during the final day of the championship. Martinez, Brown and Sharon have all earned NAIA All-American honors after securing at least a top-eight finish at the national tournament. In the team race, the Tigers are 10th overall with 33 points.
 
Brown started the back-to-back Tiger victories on mat five after he upended No. 6 Dylan Blackford of Grand View University is a tight 3-2 decision. Sharon continued the momentum after grabbing a 7-4 victory over University of Providence's Randy Keesler (seeded seventh at 184 pounds).
 
In the national semifinals on Saturday morning, Brown takes on No. 10 Adrian Lyons-Lopez from Providence and Sharon battles No. 6 Jacob Smith from Baker University.
 
Martinez continued his run through the consolation bracket and picked up two wins on Friday night to earn All-American honors as a freshman. He defeated Ray Porter of Lourdes University in a 16-13 decision in the first match of the night session. He then upset No. 9-seeded Dustin Miller of Lyon College, 4-1, in the All-American round to capture the national honor and at least an eighth-place finish.
 
On Saturday, Martinez will take on No. 7 Sawyer Miller of Indiana Institute of Technology.
 
Jaedin Sklapsky dropped both of his matches in the night session and just missed out on a top-eight finish and All-American honors. Sklapsky was first upset No. 7 Taylor Moeder of Kansas Wesleyan University in a 7-3 decision. In the consolation bracket, the junior suffered a 10-4 decision loss to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's David Salazar to end the tournament at 1-2.
 
Kolten Radaz ended his tournament during his first match of the night session after a 3-2 decision loss to Ian Morken of Menlo College. Jayce Carr suffered his second loss of the national championships to Salazar of Embry-Riddle, 9-7, to cap off his day.
 
Grand View University continues to lead the team race with 98.5 points, followed by University of the Cumberlands with 67 points. Four Mid-South Conference teams are still within the top 10.
 
The third session begins at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday morning to start day two of the NAIA National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa.
