No. 4 Lady Tiger softball set to open Mid-South Conference play this week vs. UPIKE

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Even with a snow storm blanketing most of Kentucky on Tuesday and Wednesday, Lady Tiger softball is still slated to host University of Pikeville on Thursday and Friday for the Mid-South Conference opener.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 22, and Noon ET on Friday, March 23, at Veterans Memorial Park. All four games of the doubleheader will be aired on the Campbellsville University Sports Network with Jordan Alves on the call. Links are available above.
 
No. 3 Campbellsville enters with an 18-3 record and are winners of their last six games and eight of their last nine. CU swept Hiwassee College and Point Park University to open its home schedule last weekend. The Lady Tigers had another non-conference doubleheader which was scheduled for Tuesday vs. Brescia, but it was cancelled due to weather.
 
Tori Humphrey is coming off a big week at the plate that earned her NCCAA Softball Student-Athlete of the Week honors. She collected a hit in each game, including two hits in each contest vs. Hiwassee last Thursday. Humphrey went 2-for-3 in each game on Thursday vs. the Tigers and scored four combined runs while driving in another. On Friday, Humphrey had a hit in each game and scored two more runs. She also added a stolen base on the week - her first of the season. Humphrey leads CU with a .394 batting average and is second on the team with four home runs. 
 
In addition, Ryleigh Oldham is hitting .370 and Alexis Smith is at .369 – which is second and third on the team, respectively. Oldham leads CU with five homers, while Smith has crushed four and is tops with 25 RBI. Oldham is second with 22 runs batted in.
 
Overall, Campbellsville is outscoring opponents 157-56. CU ranks No. 8 with 6.7 runs batted in per game and No. 10 with 1.0 home run per game. In the Lady Tigers' three loses, CU has been shut out by opponents.
 
In the pitching circle, ace Neely Quint has started her senior season with a bang. She has a 12-0 record – ranking No. 4 in the country - and 1.44 ERA in 13 games played and 11 starts. In her 72.2 innings, she's allowed 15 earned runs and struck out a team-high 51 batters, while opponents are hitting just .207 off her.
 
Morgan Gailor leads the Mid-South Conference with a 0.98 ERA in 11 games and 10 starts. Gailor boasts a 6-3 record and has allowed only seven earned runs in 50 innings. Overall, opponents are hitting just .232 off the CU staff – which is second in the MSC – and their team-ERA of 1.59 is tops in the conference and No. 8 in the NAIA.
 
University of Pikeville enters the week on a program record 10-game winning streak. The Bears boast a 14-6 overall record and rank No. 5 in the country with 8.1 runs per game. UPIKE is one of the best base running teams in the country as well, ranking No. 8 in steals per game with 2.7.
 
UPIKE is led by Chandler Kelly's .451 batting average with 23 hits in 51 at bats. She's also second on the team with 19 RBI behind Lee Collier's 20. In addition, Megan Claypoole and Jordan Gentry are both hitting above .400 at .415 and .410, respectively. Collier also leads the conference with 15 steals and averaged just under one steal per game.
 
In the circle, Hannah Skaggs and Megan Claypoole are both 7-3 overall with 11 games pitched. Skaggs has started in 10 games, tossed 54.1 innings and allowed 16 earned runs for an ERA of 2.06. Claypool has thrown 61.1 innings and allowed 26 earned runs for an ERA of 2.97. Claypoole is coming off a 14 strike out performance over non-NAIA Cazenovia on March 15 – the 15 strikeouts are the most in a game this season by a pitcher in the Mid-South.
