Jacqueline Roof becomes second MSC student-athlete to earn three Player of the Year honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the second time in the history of the Mid-South Conference, a student-athlete has earned Player of the Year honors for the third straight season.

Campbellsville's Jacqueline Roof picked up her third award after leading Campbellsville softball to its eighth Mid-South Conference regular season championship. Roof was honored at tonight's annual awards banquet by MSC commissioner, Eric Ward.

She is the first MSC student-athlete to ever Freshman of the Year and three Player of the Year awards.

The award is the eighth for Campbellsville in the 19-year history of the MSC – which leads all institutions. Other MSC Players of the Year include: Amanda Nuyt (2006), Lauren Wathen (2008), Bailey Dillender (2010 & 11) and Emma Napier (2013).

"Jacqueline has been a programmer changer and one of the hardest workers to ever put on Lady Tiger uniform," said coach Shannon Wathen. "She works at her craft every single day and is always the first to be taking extra cuts in the cage before and even between games.

"She has put up tremendous numbers in conference and is deserving of this award for the third straight year. After her career is over, Jacqueline will be one of the best to ever dawn the maroon and white."

Hitting .385 with nine home runs and 36 RBI, Roof is one of the best players in the country once again. Her .679 slugging percentage and .484 on-base-percentage leads CU. She also leads the Lady Tigers in career slugging at .723, batting average at .401 and runs scored with 209 – all of that from the leadoff spot in the batting order.

In conference play alone, Roof is hitting .438 with seven homers and 26 RBI. In addition, she's slugging .787 and has an on-base-percentage of .524 in the 28 MSC games.

In her career, Roof has hit 47 home runs, drove in 168 runs, tallied 48 doubles and stole 35 bases.

Her slugging percentage of .679 this season is first in the Mid-South Conference, while she's also scored the fourth-most runs with 51 from the lead off position in the batting order. She ranks second in total bases with 106 and third in in on base percentage at .484.

The only other MSC student-athlete to earn the award three times is Denis Porcic – men's tennis player from Lindsey Wilson (2016-2018).

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to open the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday morning at 11 a.m. ET at Michael O. Buchanon Park. See the link above for the complete game and conference preview story.
