CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The inaugural season of Mid-South Conference men's volleyball will begin for the Tigers, as they will head to Harrogate, Tenn. for a pair of non-conference matches against Lincoln Memorial University and Belmont Abbey College.
The Tigers are returning eight players from the team that went 16-15 last season including their kills leader
Rafael Cruz, assists leader
Jeremy Hernandez and digs leader
Noel Camello.
Cruz was First Team All-Conference in the Mid-South last season after his 362 total kills and 3.73 kills per set. Only two other CU attackers are returning who recorded over 100 kills in
Diego Romero (167) and
Max Stotridge (144).
Romero had the second-highest assist total on the team as well as he recorded 287 assists behind the 599 from Hernandez. Hernandez averaged 7.58 assists per set as the team averaged 10.68 assists per set.
Camello totaled 300 digs last season to lead the way for the Tigers as well as pulling 523 receptions off of serves. Romero also way in triple digits in the dig category as well with 121 digs throughout the 2018 season.
CU's opponents this weekend had similar records last season as well with Lincoln Memorial going 14-13 and Belmont Abbey going 13-16.
The leader in kills from last season for LMU is returning in 2019 in Evan Cory who recorded 344 kills last season as a sophomore.
BAC's leader in kills last season was also a sophomore in Liam Maxwell who had 471 kills that season, as he will also be returning for the Crusaders in 2019.
The match against Lincoln Memorial is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET on Friday and the match against Belmont Abbey is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on Saturday.
