Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A challenging early schedule got no easier Saturday night as Campbellsville men's volleyball as the Tigers fell to the No. 4 ranked team in the NAIA in Missouri Baptist University.
The first and second sets were tightly contested affairs as the Spartans won the first 25-21 and the Tigers won the second 25-23. Campbellsville held a lead late in the first set at 19-18 but Missouri Baptist called a timeout and answered with a 7-2 run to close out the set.
In the second, there was only one lead by more than two by either team as the final points kept the score tied or a one-point margin. After trailing 22-20, the Tigers were able to outscore the Spartans 5-1 for the remainder of the set behind
Rafael Cruz, who recorded the final three kills.
MBU followed up by winning the third set 25-17 and then the fourth 25-9 not allowing CU to come back and force a fifth set. The fifth set was a combination of the best hitting set for the Spartans and the worst on the attack for the Tigers. Campbellsville hit for a -.120 hitting percentage and Missouri Baptist hit .579 with 11 kills and no errors.
One of the standout stats in the match came on the serve as the Tigers were only able to get three service aces compared to the 16 that came from the Spartans. Miljan Kastratovic for MBU had seven aces to lead the way as they had three other players with multiple aces in the match.
Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Palos Heights, Ill. for the NCCAA Invitational where they will face Marantha Baptist, Bluefield and Trinity Christian.
