LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A dual meet that Campbellsville men's wrestling led 20-6 saw No. 17 Baker University bring the score to 20-20 with just the 285 lbs. weight class left to wrestle in the elimination bracket of the NWCA-NAIA National Duals.
Ashton Mutuwa for the Tigers answered the called and staved off the full comeback from Baker as he won by decision 3-0. Mutuwa's win gave CU the 23-20 victory and the chance to keep wrestling at the national duals.
Campbellsville built their lead up with major decision victories from
Jordan Martinez (13-5) at 125 lbs. and
Marvin Galette (10-2) at 133 lbs., a pin victory from
Chandler Woenker in just about two minutes at 157 lbs. and a forfeit win for
Gavin Smith in the 165 lbs. weight class.
Baker answered that 20-6 start with necessary victories in the matches to follow starting with a pin at 174 lbs. by Lucas Lovvorn over CU's
Mahlic Sallah. That was followed by major decision wins by Jacob Smith over
Aaron Mosley (12-4) at 184 lbs. and David Dow over Daivd Richardson (13-0) at 197 lbs. to tie the score at 20-20.
With the win, the Tigers clinch their 10th season in the last 11 where they will place at the national duals. The worst CU can finish is eighth place and the best they can finish with be fifth.
CU will move on to face Missouri Valley in their first meet tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET at Freedom Hall and will wrestle again at noon after that regardless or result.
