LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In Campbellsville men's wrestling's opening round of the NWCA-NAIA National Duals, only two individual matches scored more than three points as the Tigers came out on top over No. 8 Lindsey Wilson 24-11.
CU scored six points in two different matches in the 149 lbs. and 165 lbs. weight classes. At 149,
Jaedin Sklapsky won for the Tigers by forfeit and at 165,
Gavin Smith earned a third round pin victory over Bryce Hoffman about 41 seconds into the final period.
Campbellsville took command of the team score after Sklapsky's win by forfeit as they went up 12-3 then grew that lead to 18-6 after Smith's pin. CU did a good job of not letting Lindsey Wilson chain victories together as the Blue Raiders never won back-to-back matches.
Every other match in the competition was won by decision by either team as the Blue Raiders and Tigers each had four decision wins. No decision was won by more than five points in the dual and one was won by sudden victory.
Jordan Martinez started the day off right for CU with a 9-5 decision over Cagen Wallace at the 125 lbs. weight class. Two matches later,
Aaron Rugnao earned the largest decision victory for the Tigers by a score of 8-3 over Austin Ramsey in the 141 lbs. division.
Aaron Mosley and David Richardson sealed the deal for CU with a pair of tight wins at the 184 lbs. and 197 lbs. matches. Mosley won 6-4 by decision over Lucas Miozza at 184 and Richardson won a one-point decision 6-5 over Avery Buckman at 197. Those wins pushed the Tigers' lead from 18-9 to 24-9.
With their victory, the Tigers will move on to the championship side of the bracket as they will take on another top-10 team from the Mid-South Conference. CU will take on University of the Cumberlands at 1 p.m. ET at Freedom Hall in the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville.
