GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lady Tigers sprung back into action as they visited Grand Rapids for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
In a meet where they Lady Tigers were a little shorthanded, missing both
Mia Rodriguez and
Hailey Shank, Campbellsville was able match some of their season best times to finish 23
rd overall.
Season bests from
Ashlyn Elmore and
Jennifer Maxwell helped the Lady Tigers mark an average time of 20:25.8. Elmore improved upon her mark from the Greater Louisville Classic by three seconds to run a 20:46.5, finishing 137
th and third for CU.
Maxwell finished outside the top five for the Lady Tigers, but put together a 21:55 for 171
st, narrowly missing her career best mark from her freshman season.
CU was able to put two ladies under 20 minutes as
Hailey Stallings and
Gabrielle Velez finished 76
th and 86
thoverall. Stallings came through with a 19:47.8, while Velez followed with a 19:54.4.
Miranda Rzendzian barely missed breaking 20 minutes and the top 100 as she used a 20:10.1 to finish 107
thoverall.
Rounding out the top five for the Lady Tigers was
Olivia Napier who was able to run a 21:30.2 for 165
th place. Napier closed Campbellsville's scoring column with 571 total points.
Maggie Parrish and
Abigail Coleman also competed for CU. Parrish escaped sub-22, running a 21:59.9 and Coleman followed with a 23:10.5.
The Lady Tigers finished 23
rd overall in a field stacked with numerous teams mentioned in the previous NAIA Coaches' Top 25 poll.
Madonna, who is ranked second in the country, was able to win the meet scoring 70 points. Individually, it was Sarah Harden who took the crown with an 18:04.
The Lady Tigers raced against three other teams from the Mid-South as Shawnee State placed 10
th, the University of the Cumberlands finished 19
th, and Cumberland University edged out the Tigers in 22
nd.
Campbellsville will be fighting for a conference championship in their next meet as this closed out the regular season for the Lady Tigers. The Mid-South Conference Championship with take place at Phil Moore Park in Bowling Green, Ky. on November 9
th.
