Tigers head to LWC Classic for pair of games of weekend games

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. – Tiger basketball will head to Lindsey Wilson College this weekend to matchup with Oakwood University and Missouri Baptist University in the LWC Classic.
 
Fans can tune in to the action as the voice of Tiger basketball, Matt Payton will be on the call on the radio on 88.7 FM The Tiger on Friday with Tony Fonzo and Jordan Alves on the call on online at campbellsvilletigers.com/watch on Saturday.
 
 
THE CLASSIC
  • On Friday, Campbellsville will play the Ambassadors of Oakwood University to open up their play for the weekend. Tipoff for this game will be at 3 p.m. ET.
  • Following this game, Lindsey Wilson will play Missouri Baptist University, who currently sits in the receiving votes category of the poll.
  • Saturday the matchups are reversed as CU will matchup with Missouri Baptist University at 5 p.m. ET, while LWC and Oakwood will play following.
 
HISTORY AT THE LINDSEY WILSON CLASSIC
  • The Tigers have participated in the Lindsey Wilson Classic the past three years, where they hold an overall record of 4-1.
  • Last season, as CU took to Columbia, their lone game was against the Cougars of Carver College.
  • In this game, the Tigers were led by 30 points from Stephaun Adams as well as a 14-14 double-double from Andrew Smith.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Tigers last game came on Tuesday as they visited Pippas Passes, Ky. to play Alice Lloyd.
  • CU overtook the Eagles 88-60 led by Alston Davis' and Justin Tucker's 15 points.
  • The Tigers shot a season high 50% from behind the arc, nailing 12 Edwards Jones triples in the ballgame.
  • De'Undra Singleton and Taiveyhon Mason also tallied double figures, with 10 and 11 a piece.
 
SCOUTING OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY
  • Through six games, Oakwood is 0-6, averaging 62.2 points per game.
  • Their 373 points points rank them among the top three teams in the USCAA.
  • The Ambassadors are led by Marquise Hudson and Talik Talton who have both recorded north of 11 points per game.
  • Oakwood has had success on the glass as they average 36.8 defensive rebounds per game, and 51.7 total rebounds per game to rank first and second in the USCAA.
  • Dalton State is a common opponent the Tigers and Ambassadors share, as Oakwood fell to the Roadrunners 87-52.
 
HISTORY AGAINST OAKWOOD
  • The Tigers have met the Ambassadors eight times since 1998, where they have been victorious in each matchup.
  • The Tigers last beat Oakwood last season as the Ambassadors visited the Powell Athletic Center and CU took an 86-60 win.
  • Stephaun Adams led CU with 27 points in the meeting.
 
SCOUTING MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
  • Entering the weekend, MBU boasts a 2-1 record, while sitting in the receiving votes category of the preseason NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
  • As a team, the rank third in the NAIA in three-point defense, holding opponents to 20.6% shooting from behind the arc.
  • The Spartans have also put together a tremendous defense inside the arc, holding opponents to 36.2% overall from the field.
  • MBU is led by 14 points per game from Jahmouri Robinson, who recorded a season high 17 in their last game against Webster University. Robinson also leads the team with eight assists on the season.
 
HISTORY AGAINST MBU
  • Since 2004, the Tigers have only met Missouri Baptist once, where they fell 72-62.
 
TIGERS ON NEUTRAL COURT
  • Last season, CU went 5-4 in nine games at a neutral site.
  • This will be their first of four regular season neutral site games this year.
 
TIGERS RANK 21STENTERING THE YEAR
  • As the NAIA released its Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday, Campbellsville earned 76 voting points to be ranked 21stoverall in the poll.
  • CU was given this ranking after a 22-10 record and an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament had them ending last season in the receiving votes category of the poll.
  • The Tigers will seek to continue to move up the rankings with a hot start to the season, after an 11-0 start last year propelled them as high as fifth in the poll.
UPCOMING FOR CAMPBELLSVILLE
  • After this stretch of games for CU, the Tigers will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for an exhibition against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. This game will tipoff at 8 p.m. ET at E.A. Diddle Arena.
