POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – As the Lady Tigers ventured out to the Ozarks for the NCCAA Championships, CU was able to put together their highest national championship performance in school history.
Gabrielle Velez used her first NCCAA Championship appearance to finish 10
th, becoming the first NCCAA All-American in Lady Tiger history. Velez used the hilly course to her advantage, breaking the 20-minute barrier and running a 19:55.96.
After narrowly missing the honor last season,
Mia Rodriguez was hopeful to move up this season to mark an All-American finish. However, as Rodriguez struggled on the course, she was still able to finish in 34
th with a 21:22.20 to finish second for the Lady Tigers.
Ashlyn Elmore and
Olivia Napier also put together solid performances for Campbellsville as the two trudged the course side-by-side. Elmore and Napier worked well together to move up throughout the race, as they finished three seconds apart. Elmore led Napier with a 42
nd place finish running a 21:43.05.
Maggie Parrish was the final CU scorer, as she capitalized on a top 50
th place finish as well. Parrish was able to sneak past the 50
th spot down the closing stretch, as she took 49
th place overall with a 22:18.34.
The Lady Tigers put together a team score of 166 points, while averaging a 21:25.25 in one of the more difficult races of the year.
Cedarville took the team title as they put all of their scorers from second to sixth to score 20 points with a 19:05.30 average.
Emma Jankowski won the individual title from Bethel with an 18:23.83.
This meet concludes the Lady Tigers' season as they do not have any qualifiers in the NAIA National Championships next weekend.
