No 5 Tigers have 10 wrestlers place in Top 6 at Embry-Riddle Open

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — After sweeping its dual opponents on Friday night, No. 5 Campbellsville continued its hot start by 10 individuals placing at the Embry-Riddle Open on Saturday.

Led by second-place finishes from Michael Beets and Mahlic Sallah, the Tigers had 10 of their 11 wrestlers place in their respective weight classes.

Sallah struggled in the duals on Friday night but came right back on Saturday and go better by winning a pair of matches. He took down Matthew Steveson (12-11) and Andres Aguilera of Arizona Christian (2-1).

Beets, wrestling at 133, also earned a first-round bye and won a pair of matches. He took down Sunny Luna and Mario Barrois with a pair of 5-3 decisions.

Three others finished in third place – David Richardson, Logan Smith and Kolten Radaz. Richardson scored 18.5 team points for the Tigers after going 4-1 overall in the open. He lost his quarterfinal match to Tyler Hall of Embry Riddle but earned three pins and a forfeit to finish in third.

Smith competed at 157 and won three matches – all with different outcomes. He earned a 16-0 tech fall over Paul Barrera of Grand Canyon University before falling via sudden victory, 4-2, to Sheldon Cole of Embry Riddle. Smith then won the consolation semifinal match over Keller Rock with a 2-1 decision and then placed third with a major decision over Brian Isaias, 10-1.

Radaz won his first two matches before falling in the semifinal. He earned a pair of pins, a major decision and decision to scored 16.5 points.
