Escobar's meet records help lead Tigers to fourth place at Igloo Invite

SEWANEE, Tn. – Saturday morning, CU swim continued the Igloo Invite as numerous Tigers moved to finals after prelims on Friday.
 
Collin McGuire and Noah Ackermann got the day started for Campbellsville scoring a combined 21 points for the team in the 400-yard IM. McGuire led Ackermann placing fourth with a season best mark of 4:21.52. Ackermann following in 5:17.96.
 
Following this event, RJ Harris was able to use a 23.18 to place 12thin the 50-yard freestyle, scoring five points. Tucker Hardin, Nick Kessler, Brandon Bagwell, and Micah Lauer all narrowly missed scoring points for the team. Harris was able to add to his day with an 11thplace finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a 56.97.
 
However, Kessler was able to bounce back in his next event, swimming a 59.24 in the 100-yard backstroke to better his prelim time and finish in 10th.
 
After an event win on Friday, Sebastian Escobar came back Saturday to win the 200-yard freestyle with a meet record mark of 1:42.46.
 
Justin Spalding led a trio of Tigers in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:22.12 for 14 points in fifth place. Micah Lauer and Brandon Bagwell followed with 2:32.09 and 2:37.56 for seven and six team points, respectively.
 
The Tigers closed the day in the 400-yard relay after they bettered their seed time by 12 seconds. The squad of Escobar, Hardin, Harris, and McGuire were able to finish in fourth to score 30 points for the Tigers. Spalding, Lauer, Kessler, and Ackermann swam on the Tiger relay-B for 12thplace and ten team points.
 
Overall, Asbury was able to win the team title, totaling 760 points in the meet. The Tigers were able to notch 394 to finish fourth.
 
This concludes competition in the fall semester for the Tigers, but CU will be back in the pool in the spring, on Jan. 11 as they plan to Bethel University and 11 a.m. ET.
