Piedmont International opens the Lady Tiger's championship quest

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Monday afternoon, the Lady Tigers will once again be title chasing as a part of the NCCAA National Tournament.

At 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 2, the second seeded Lady Tigers will meet up with eighth seeded Piedmont International University at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.

PATH TO A CHAMPIONSHIP
  • In route to reach the semifinal, the CU will play out of Pool B where their second seed matches them with No. 5 Roberts Wesleyan College and No. 8 Piedmont International University.
  • It will take at least four games for Campbellsville to win the national championship, as they seek two wins in pool play and wins in the semifinal and final.
  • The Pool Play winners are determined by record, points, goals scored, goals against and goal differential.
  • If the Tigers advance out of Pool Play, the National Office will re-seed teams for the semifinal rounds – which is scheduled for Friday evening, Dec. 6. The championship is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS
  • Piedmont International enter the national tournament with an at-large bud after falling to Erskine College in the South Regional Championship.
  • Boasting a 9-7-1 record, the Bruins have won four of their last six games.
  • On the year, the Bruins have been led by Kelsie Simpson who has been able to notch 12 goals in only ten matches.
  • Ericka Washburn has been the main keeper for the squad, starting in 14 of the teams 15 games and only allowing 1.42 goals per game.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Lady Tigers last match came on Nov. 22 in the Opening Round of the NAIA Championship.
  • As CU traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss., they met Southern Oregon who was able to take a 2-0 win to move on to the final game of the opening round.
  • Statistically, the game was balanced as CU was only out shot 10-9, but 70th and 86th minute goals were all it took for the Raiders to advance.

HISTORY IN THE NCCAA TOURNAMENT
  • 2014 and 2016 are the lone years in which CU has reached the semifinal of the NCCAA Tournament.
  • In 2014, the Lady Tigers advanced past pool play with 3-1 and 2-1 wins, but fell to Lee University 3-0 in the semifinal match.
  • After an NAIA Championship berth, CU did not return to the championships until 2016, where Oklahoma Baptist halted the championship run, 2-0, in the semifinal match.
  • Last season, the NCCAA had only two pools, forcing the Lady Tigers to play three games in pool play. In these matches, CU went 1-2, failing to reach the semifinal match.

LADY TIGERS BY THE NUMBERS
  • CU has found success both on both sides of the ball this season.
  • The Lady Tigers rank eighth among NAIA opponents in both shots per game (22.44) and shots on goal per game (11.61).
  • Behind 10 goals from Jessie Bryson and Molly Hall and another eight from Hope Sanders, Campbellsville also ranks 12th in goals per game (3.5).
  • Defensively, the Lady Tigers have blanked their opponents nine times, averaging a shutout every other game.

UPCOMING GAME
Following Monday's match, CU will play Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET, seeking advancement to Friday's semifinal.
