MARSHALL, Mo. – For the second time in five days, the Campbellsville men's wrestling team swept a set of four duals, most recently coming on Tuesday in Marshall, Mo. at the Missouri Valley Duals.
The Tigers earned their victories over University of Saint Mary, Ottawa University, Missouri Valley College, and Williams Baptist College on Tuesday with two of the wins coming in shutout fashion. The two shutouts came against Ottawa at 54-0 and Williams Baptist at 45-0 with the start of their duals coming against Saint Mary with a final score of 39-9 in favor of Campbellsville.
The dual against hosts and No. 15 ranked in the NAIA Missouri Valley College was the closest margin of victory for CU with a final score of 30-13. It was a back and forth dual after the Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead behind wins from
Jordan Martinez at 125 lbs. (major decision) and
Marvin Galette at 133 lbs. (pin), the Vikings answered with wins in the next three to tie it at 10-10.
With the score tied, Campbellsville went on to win four of the next five matches, only losing a decision at 174 lbs. with three of their wins coming by fall from
Chandler Woenker (165),
David Richardson (184), and
Zach Linton (197), before
Ashton Mutuwa (285) finished off the dual with a decision victory.
In the dual against the Spires of Saint Mary, the Tigers trailed twice in the early going by scores of 6-0 and 9-6 but went on to win the seven matches to finish the dual with their 39-9 win.
Michael Diemer (149), Richardson, and Mutuwa all earned pin victories to help push the team total up to 39.
Tristan Sellmer (157),
Mahlic Sallah (174), and Linton earned tight decision victories as well to help aid the CU win.
Campbellsville's 54-0 win against Ottawa had three forfeits, at the 125 lbs., 197 lbs., and 285 lbs., weight classes, as well as pin wins from Galette,
Dayton Marvel (141),
Luke Story (149), Woenker, and Richardson.
Then, in the 45-0 dual against Williams Baptist, the Tigers earned five pins from Martinez, Story, Sellmer, Richardson, and Linton. The other victories came by decisions from
Kolten Radaz (133), Marvel,
Logan Smith (165),
Calieb Ray (174), and Mutuwa.
These duals closed out the 2019 portion of the schedule for Campbellsville men's wrestling as their next trip to the mats will be at the NUWAY College Open and the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky. on Jan. 10-11.
