Tigers one win away from NCCAA semifinal as they face Judson University

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Tigers seek to return to the pitch on Wednesday to play Judson University at 3:30 p.m. ET to determine the Pool B representative in the national semifinal.

PATH TO A CHAMPIONSHIP
  • After CU won their first game of pool play, over Bethesda University, a win today would place them in the NCCAA semifinal match on Friday.
  • With a loss, the Tigers would have to rely on the tiebreaker criteria in hopes they are reseeded in the top four of the tournament.
  • Given a tie, Campbellsville will hold the tie breaking criteria over Judson, as CU shutout Bethesda, while the Eagles gave up two goals.
  • If the Tigers make the national semifinal, the teams will be reseeded and will play on Friday, Dec. 6 in the semifinal.
  • The championship match would take place on Saturday, Dec. 7.

JUDSON VS. BETHESDA
  • Tuesday afternoon, the Eagles defeated the Flames, 5-2.
  • Judson outshot Bethesda, 24-8 in the effort.
  • Bethesda jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Kaleb Soares scored eleven seconds into play.
  • However, Judson countered, scoring five straight goals from the 18th to 51st minutes.
  • Bethesda was able to pick up an 82nd minute goal, but it was too late the Flames, as they fell, 5-2.

TIGERS LAST TIME OUT
  • On Monday, Campbellsville faced the Bethesda Flames, winning, 3-0.
  • The Tiger defense stifled the Bethesda attack, not allowing a shot from BU.
  • CU was able to put up 21 of their own attacks as Gustav Oskarsson record two goals and Eleder Goikoetxea was able to pick up one of his own.

SCOUTING JUDSON
  • Entering Wednesday, Judson holds a record of 11-9, with a 2-2 record against teams mentioned in the NAIA's top 25 poll.
  • The loan common opponent between the CU and Judson is Saint Xavier. The Eagles fell in this match, 2-1, while Campbellsville won, 2-0.
  • The Eagles are led in scoring by Nikolaos Mihalopoulos who has recorded 16 goals  in 20 matches this season.
  • As a team, Judson has outscored opponents, 57-45.
  • Judson has relied on two keepers this season. Jacob Collins has played a majority of the time in goal, recording 55 saves in 13 games played. Brandon Gorka has played in nine games this season and has picked up 23 saves in his time.

HISTORY IN THE NCCAA TOURNAMENT
  • Campbellsville's highest finish in the NCCAA Tournament came in 2017 when they reached the semifinal before falling to Southwestern Christian, 2-1.
  • In that year, the Tigers advanced out of pool play after tying Southern Wesleyan, 0-0 and beating Bethel College, 1-0.
  • Last season, CU failed to make it out of pool play after defeating Warner, 2-1 and falling to Bethel 2-1.

TIGERS BY THE NUMBERS
  • On the season, CU has spread their scoring out, as Marc Lawrence leads the way with eight goals. Connor Pugh follows with seven, trailed by Gustavo Izzo and Haylen West who have six each.
  • As a team, the Tiger defense has been stellar as CU ranks 12th in the NAIA in shutouts per game, with 0.530.
  • These numbers have aided Owen Stott to ranking 18th nationally in goals against per game with 0.830.

WHATS NEXT FOR THE CU
  • With a win, Campbellsville will earn an automatic bid to the national semifinal on Friday.
  • As teams will be reseeded entering semifinal play, game time would be unknown, but would take place at 12 p.m. ET or 2:30 p.m. ET.
  • If the Tigers were to lose or tie, their fate is unknown, but in the situation of a tie, the tiebreaker does favor Campbellsville to advance.
