Lady Tigers look to Ottawa University Arizona in semifinal match of NCCAA Championships

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Lady Tigers look face Ottawa University Arizona in the NCCAA Semifinal on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET. 
 
After winning Pool B, Campbellsville earned the No. 3 reseeding for the semifinal the Spirit of Ottawa represent Pool C with the over No. 2 seed.
 

PATH TO A CHAMPIONSHIP
  • The Lady Tigers are one win away from playing in the national title game on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
  • If Campbellsville were to win, they would play the winner of No. 1 Cedarville University and No. 4 Roberts Wesleyan College.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE LADY TIGERS
  • CU advanced to the semifinal after winning Pool B by way of tiebreaker as both the Lady Tigers and Roberts Wesleyan defeated Piedmont International before tying in their match against each other.
  • Campbellsville earned the advantage with a goal differential of +4 to the Redhawks' +2.
  • The Lady Tigers and Roberts Wesleyan put together a battle, but neither team was able to mark a goal, resulting in a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of physical play.
  • In a physical game that marked four yellow cards, Campbellsville won the shooting battle, 21-6 but could not scratch a goal.
  • Prior to the end of regulation, it seemed as the Redhawks would be able to take a late lead with an 88thminute goal, but the Lady Tigers caught a break as offsides forced the goal to be waved off.
  • In OT, CU had two chances that were just missed. The first came as Rachel McWIlliams fired a 20-yard shot, but the ball ricocheted off of the crossbar. 
  • The next came with thirty seconds remaining as Shannon Ramey found Jessie Bryson leading a breaking, but the opportunity was squandered as the GK jumped on the ball, to finish the game in a draw.
SCOUTING OTTAWA UNIVERSITY ARIZONA
  • The Spirit entered the NCCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed, playing out of Pool C. However, Ottawa defeated Erskine College in overtime, 4-3 and Mid-America Christian, 2-0 to earn the No. 2 seed in the semifinal.
  • OUAZ has worked to a 15-7 record this season, playing out of the Golden State Athletic Conference. 
  • The Spirit have been led in scoring by Salpress Jones, who has recorded 13 goals on 54 shots.
  • Jones and teammate Sarah Inafuku also lead the squad in assists with nine each.
  • As a team, OUAZ has had success in sharing the ball as their 50 assists rank them 13th among NAIA teams. 
  • In goal Krysten Cabellero has been the loan keeper, recorded 79 saves on 35 goals allowed.
HISTORY IN THE NCCAA TOURNAMENT
  • This is the third time the Lady Tigers reached the NCCAA Semifinal.
  • CU had reached the semifinal in 2014 and 2016, but have yet to reach a championship match.
  • In 2014, the Lady Tigers advanced past pool play with 3-1 and 2-1 wins but fell to Lee University 3-0 in the semifinal match.
  • After an NAIA Championship berth, CU did not return to the championships until 2016, where Oklahoma Baptist halted the championship run, 2-0, in the semifinal match.
  • Last season, the NCCAA had only two pools, forcing the Lady Tigers to play three games in pool play. In these matches, CU went 1-2, failing to reach the semifinal match.

  • Through the season, the Lady Tigers have developed quite an offensive push, outshooting opponents 459-162, while outscoring them 70-15.
  • Molly Hall and Jessie Bryson lead the scoring for Campbellsville with 12 goals apiece.
  • Sangmin Cha has set up ten goals on the season to rank second in Campbellsville history.
  • Katelyn Young has been the main goalie for Campbellsville, recording 63 saves, while allowing only 15 goals.

  • With a win, Campbellsville will advance to the national championship match on Saturday, Dec. 7 where they will meet the winners of the Cedarville and Roberts Wesleyan game.
