CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After back-to-back sweep victories at home against Midway and Cincinnati Christian, Campbellsville men's volleyball will get back on the road to face Bluefield College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.
In their most recent home wins, CU has been led in kills by two players not normally known as outside hitters. Against Midway
Joudiel Poveymirow recorded 10 kills to lead the Tigers and against Cincinnati Christian,
Jeremy Hernandez led the team with seven kills. Poveymirow has been the regular libero for CU and Hernandez the setter as head coach
Eric Snyder has tried out different lineup combinations over the last few games.
This will be the second meeting between the Tigers and the Rams as CU swept Bluefield on Jan. 25 in the NCCAA Invitational. In that match,
Max Stotridge and
Rafael Cruz recorded double figure kills and hitting percentages over .400. Stotridge led the match with 13 kills as Cruz wasn't far behind with 11 on 22 attacks.
After that match, both teams still had losing records but now each side is right at the .500 mark with the Rams at 8-8 and the Tigers at 7-7. BC is currently in the middle of a four-match winning streak with wins over Milligan College, Ramapo College, Randolph-Macon College and Cumberland University. In those wins, the Rams only dropped two out of the 14 sets played.
Individually, one attacker dominates the ball for Bluefield as Alberto Chiaparini has 205 kills to be the only player in triple digits for the team this season so far. Rams' setter Chaz Franqui has 391 assists so far on the season with the team total at 438 for 89 percent of the assists coming from Franqui.
After this weekend, the Tigers will have two more road matches next week starting with a Tuesday night match against Cumberland University. After that they will face Thomas More College next Friday before hosting the Saints on March 5.
