CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Riding a three-match win streak and coming off of a tight five-set win at Bluefield College on Saturday, Campbellsville men's volleyball will stay on the road to face Cumberland University on Tuesday night.
In Saturday's match at Bluefield, the Tigers trailed by a set on two different occasions before coming back from down 2-1 win the fourth and fifth sets by the minimum of two points each first 27-25 in the fourth and then 15-13 in the fifth to pull out the win.
Rafael Cruz led CU with 22 kills in the match to lead all attackers in the match for the first 20-plus kill match for any Tiger player this season.
Jose Viera Cerame added 17 kills as the only other player in double figures for Campbellsville with
Jason Camacho recording nine along with his 38 assists as the primary setter for CU.
With that match, Cruz moved into the team lead at 139 now on the season, passing Camacho. Camacho now has 159 assists on the season behind the 311 from
Jeremy Hernandez who spent the majority of the first 14 matches as the primary setter.
The Phoenix are 1-13 so far on the season with their only win coming on Feb. 16 at Cincinnati Christian in a sweep. On the attack, two players are in the 80s in kills with the team leader Arthur Amorim at 89 and Christina Lester right behind him at 86.
After Tuesday's match, the Tigers will on the road at Thomas More College this Friday before hosting the Saints at the Gosser Gymnasium on Tuesday, March 5.
