Tigers set to host final home match against Cumberland University for program’s first senior night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – For the final time of the 2019 season, Campbellsville men's volleyball will host a home match at the Gosser Gymnasium this Tuesday night against Cumberland University.

Tuesday night will also be the first senior night in the three-year history of the men's volleyball program at CU as the Tigers will honor their lone senior, Derek Roby, prior to the start of the match against the Phoenix.

Roby has been part of the program since its inception in 2017 when he was one of only two sophomores to have a spot on the roster. As an outside hitter he came into the 2019 season with 36 kills in two seasons and currently has 33 kills so far this season in a reserve role. He has also been a solid contributor as a defender with a total of 112 digs over the three seasons so far.

The match against Cumberland will be the second time the Phoenix and Tigers will face off this season as Campbellsville won the earlier match this season in a 3-0 sweep. The set margins became smaller and smaller as the match progressed with a set one win of 25-9, set two win of 25-20, and set three was extended with a 26-24 Tiger win.

Most recently, the Tigers are coming off of a home sweep over Bluefield College last Wednesday. Offensively, Campbellsville was led by Jason Camacho, who continues to shine in his freshman season after his 12 kills against the Rams moved his season total to 212 kills, just five behind team leader Rafael Cruz.

Cumberland is coming into Campbellsville on a three-match losing streak after dropping all of their matches in Illinois at the Trinity Christian/St. Xavier Crossover. Their leader on the attack this season is Arthur Amorim who has 237 kills on 468 attempts, which is almost 50 more kills than their next best attacker.

Looking ahead after senior night, Campbellsville will play the remainder of their season away from home starting on Thursday in their make-up match at Thomas More College. Beyond Thursday, the Tigers will head to Sylvania, Ohio for the Lourdes University Invitational for three matches, closing out their regular season against the No. 2 team in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, Lourdes University.
