Kyle Caven earns NCCAA Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time

MOBILE, Ala. — For the fourth time in his tenure, Campbellsville's Kyle Caven was named the NCCAA Tennis Coach of the Year, the association announced on Friday. 
 
Caven, who is in his 11thseason at the helm of the tennis program, has led the men's tennis program to four NCCAA National Championships, including back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. He has been named Coach of the Year in each of the four seasons CU has won the championship. 

The tennis program had six individual earns NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors with atleast 3.4 GPAs, Will True was named an NCCAA First Team All-American and Adrian Sabrojo earned Second-Team honors. Sabrojo and True also earned All-Tournament Singles Team honors. 
 
Caven joined the Campbellsville University athletic staff in February 2008 as the head coach for Tiger and Lady Tiger tennis. A 2006 graduate of Campbellsville University, Caven played for the Tigers for four seasons before beginning his coaching career. He is a USPTR Certified Professional.
 
In 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2019 Caven led the men's tennis team by winning the NCCAA Championship. In 2011, he led the Lady Tigers to their first Mid-South Conference regular season championship and runner-up finish in the MSC Tournament. He also led the Tigers to their first share of a conference regular season title. 

Prior to the 2010-11 season, Caven coached Pablo Numbela and Carlos Anton to a No. 1 doubles finish in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region. The duo went on to finish third at the 2010 ITA Nationals in October 2010. Following the 2011 spring season, Caven was named the MSC Coach of the Year for both programs. He also received the honor for the men's program in 2009. 
 
In 2017, he led the men's tennis program to the NAIA National Championship semifinals and then went to the quarterfinals for the second-straight season in 2018.
 
Beginning in the summer of 2010, Caven has traveled at least once a year on mission trips to the Dominican Republic with SCORE International to teach tennis and minister to locals. He has taught private lessons for many years and was an instructor at the UCLA Tennis Camp in 2006.
