MOBILE, Ala. – The Campbellsville men's tennis team earned a bit of revenge on Thursday en route to winning their second-straight NCCAA National Championship over Ottawa University Arizona 5-1.
The Spirit were 5-3 winners over CU in the tournament opener in round robin play back on Monday but this time the Tigers were able to turn the tables in the national championship match.
It started off much better in doubles play on Thursday as Campbellsville led 2-1 after dropping all three doubles matches back on Monday. Similar to their two round robin wins, the Tigers earned the three singles points to clinch the 5-1 win before Ottawa could score any victories in singles play.
Fittingly, senior
Will True was able to score the championship clinching point with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
Blayze O'Keefe and
Cesar Castro were also able to win their matches to help CU grow their lead in the singles matches.
True and
Adrian Sabrojo earned spots on the All-Tournament Singles' Team with their performances in singles play over the four matches. Both were also selected as NCCAA All-Americans with True earning a spot on the First Team and Sabrojo landing on the second team.
Head Coach
Kyle Caven was also named the NCCAA Coach of the Year after his team won the championship for the second-straight season.
