BEREA, Ky. – With expected heat visiting the area, Berea decided to move the start of this weekend's Mike and Mary Kay Cross-Country Invitational up a few hours. However, that did not slow down the Lady Tigers as they use a runner-up performance from
Hailey Stallings to finish in second place as a team.
As has been the case, thus far this season,
Hailey Stallings continues to fire off times that place her among the fastest in Campbellsville history. Following a third place finish in last week's season debut, with a 19:17,
Hailey Stallings proved her race was not a fluke as she backed up performance with a second place finish. Stallings narrowly missed snatching her first collegiate victory as her 19:19 was two seconds off pace, and Centre College's Alison Anderson wtook the win.
Helping power the Lady Tigers to their second place finish once again was the trio that consisted of
Mia Rodriguez,
Miranda Rzendzian, and
Hailey Shank. Cutting 30 seconds off her time from last weekend,
Mia Rodriguez (20:11) led the pack picking up a tenth place finish. Rzendzian (20:23) and Shank (20:28) closely followed picking up 12
thand 13
thplace performances.
Rounding out the top five for Campbellsville was
Madeline Rhoads. Staying pretty consistent to last week's performance, Rhoads was able to improve her time by six seconds, to finish with a 21:44. This was enough for a 30
thplace finish, closing out the Lady Tigers team score.
Maggie Parrish,
Jennifer Maxwell and
Abigail Coleman also saw action for the Lady Tigers. Parrish and Maxwell each improved on performances from last week and were able to jump into the team's top seven for this week's run. Parrish was able to pick a top 40 finish, placing 39
thwith a time of 22:22. Maxwell (23:20) was able to finish 53
rd, while Coleman followed with a 24:59, enough for 65
th.
In a field of 91 runners, the Lady Tigers only trailed Centre College in the scoring column as the Colonels limited their score to 27 points. Campbellsville was able to pick up 63 points for their best team finish at Berea since 2012.
The Lady Tigers recorded a team average time of 20:25, improving on their average from last week by seven seconds.
The Lady Tigers will now face a three-week layoff before competing in the Greater Louisville Classic on October 5
