COLUMBIA, Ky. – Over the weekend, Tiger swimming was able to open their season at the LWC Fall Frenzy
In the Tiger effort, Campbellsville was able to score 664 points for a third-place finish, including eight national cuts.
Sebastian Escobar Fonseca led the way for the Tigers has he was able to record first place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle, while finishing runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly and 200 yard IM.
In the individual events, the Tigers were able to jump out to a hot start after Fonseca and
Collin McGuire were able to record national cuts in the 500-yard freestyle. Fonseca was able to use a 4:51.29 to record a school record and receive the first A-cut of the 2019-20 season. McGuire closely followed as he was able to use a 4:59.9 to record a B-standard national cut.
Tucker Hardin also joined in on the fun, using a 5:37.62 for a seventh-place finish.
Fonseca was later able to use his first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle to record yet another A-cut, finishing in 1:46.85, for his second school record of the day.
In the 200-yard fly, Fonseca was able to find his third national cut on the day with a 2:01.84 and a second-place finish. McGuire also swam in the event as he was able to pick up a fourth-place finish in 2:18.42.
McGuire was also able to tally a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (57.63) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:51.32). McGuire was joined by
RJ Harris in butterfly (59.58) and Hardin in the 1650 freestyle (20:17.88).
The Tigers also were able to put together five relay teams that met their national marks.
These relays were highlighted by third place finishes in the 200-yard relay (1:32.32), 400-yard relay (3:55.00), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:28.04), and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:40.07).
On the meet results, Coach Bradstreet said, "Fall Frenzy is always a great way to start the season of competition, but I was even more excited this year! They have been training very well and were ready to get some official times in the computer! There was a great atmosphere created by their attitudes and we saw great results to start the year because it all paid off."
Campbellsville will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4
th, as they host Centre College at 6:30 p.m. ET.
