CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The long wait is over for the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team as they will get back to official match action to start the 2020 season as they will head towards the Mississippi River area for four matches in four days starting this Thursday.
The begin of the Tigers season doesn't get much more difficult as their first three matches will be against teams that were mentioned in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll that was released seven days ago.
The first match for CU will be a road meeting against the No. 2 team in the NAIA poll as they'll travel to St. Louis, Mo. to face the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday. These two teams met twice last season with MBU earning both wins by scores of 3-1 and 3-0 as the Spartans went 31-1 through the 2019 season with their only loss coming in the NAIA semifinal match.
Campbellsville will then head north to Quincy, Ill. for two of their next three matches to be played at Quincy University with the other match at Culver-Stockton College in nearby Canton, Mo. across the Mississippi River.
CU will face No. 3 Grand View University at Quincy on Friday at 4 p.m. ET as the Vikings will already be coming off of a Thursday match against No. 1 Benedictine University at Mesa. Benedictine handed Grand View their NAIA Tournament elimination last season as the Vikings went 20-3 overall last season.
On Saturday at 12 p.m., the Tigers will face a team also receiving votes in the NAIA poll in Briar Cliff University as the Chargers are just ahead of Campbellsville in the poll after going 13-11 in 2019. BCU's match against CU will be their first of the season as they will only play Culver-Stockton College on Saturday as well to finish out their weekend.
The final match of the weekend for Campbellsville will be a road contest against Quincy University on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. The Hawks will be coming off of hosting both Grand View and Missouri Baptist on Friday and Saturday as they have already begun their season with losses to University of Mount Olive and Lincoln Memorial University.
The Tigers will return home after Sunday's match to prepare for the NCCAA Invitational the following weekend that will be hosted by Trinity Christian University in Palos Heights, Ill. on Jan. 24-25.
