Men’s volleyball looks to keep up hot start at NCCAA Invitational this Friday and Saturday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A 4-0 start and fresh No. 2 ranking in the NAIA Coaches Poll were the results of strong opening week play from the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team as they head into their second weekend of play with four more matches, this time as part of the NCCAA Invitational tournament.

The Tigers will head to Palos Heights, Ill. and Trinity Christian College for three pool play matches followed by a potential championship match with two matches to be played on both Friday and Saturday.

Friday's pool play competition will start off at 3 p.m. ET against Judson University followed by a 7 p.m. ET match against Greenville University. Pool play concludes Saturday morning for CU with a match against Geneva College at 10 a.m. before their final match to be determined by the results in each pool with a championship match scheduled at 4 p.m. between the top teams from each pool.

With Campbellsville, Judson, Greenville, and Geneva in Pool B, the other four teams in the tournament that make up Pool A consist of Ottawa University Arizona, Warner University, Trinity Christian, and Maranatha Baptist University.

The Eagles of Judson will head into the weekend winless 0-5 on the season after losing to No. 4 Lourdes University and No. 8 Saint Xavier as they took Lourdes to four sets before dropping their season opener.

The Panthers of Greenville haven't started their 2020 season yet as the NCAA DIII school will open the tournament against Geneva before continuing pool play against Campbellsville and Judson. Looking back to last season for the Panthers, GU finished their 2019 season with a 10-15 record.

The Golden Tornadoes of Geneva are another NCAA DII program as they have started their season 2-2 with wins against Elizabethtown College (Pa.) and Alderson Broaddus University with their losses coming against Marymount University and Alvernia University.

After the conclusion of the NCCAA Invitational, the Tigers will play their first home match at Gosser Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 28 when they host Reinhardt University for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.
