CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – An 8-0 start, an No. 2 ranking in the NAIA, and the NCCAA Invitational tournament championship have all already been accomplished before the Campbellsville University men's volleyball hosted a home match at Gosser Gymnasium.
That home opener will take place this Tuesday night when the Tigers host Reinhardt University for a 7 p.m. ET first serve. The Eagles are a member of the Mid-South Conference in men's volleyball, but Tuesday's match will be a non-conference affair.
Most recently, CU earned that NCCAA Invite win after going 4-0 combined in pool play and their championship match against Ottawa University Arizona as they swept the three pool play matches and went the distance to beat the Spirit in five sets.
Both
Rafael Cruz and
John Montalvo earned All-Tournament team honors as well as Cruz being named the tournament's Most-Outstanding Player for their performance.
Cruz compiled 31 kills in just three matches and a .387 hitting percentage after only committing seven attack errors while Montalvo had 43 digs mainly playing as the team's libero, he also recorded a 10-kill, 17-dig double-double in their opening match against Judson playing in full rotation.
The Eagles head into Tuesday's meeting with a 1-3 record with their only win coming against the only common opponent they have with CU, Judson. Reinhardt toppled Judson 3-1 with set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, and 25-21.
Junior Matthew Corrales lead the attack for the Eagles by far with 53 kills through four matches, 29 more than the next highest player on the team. Ricardo Mujica is the starting setter for RU with a group of five players that includes Corrales and Mujica with double-digit digs so far on the season.
Following this match, the Tigers will host two more home matches this week when they welcome Goshen and Life to Gosser Gymnasium for Friday and Saturday matches respectively.
