Tigers use 23-0 start to rout MSC newcomer Thomas More University, 38-16

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The seventh-ranked Tigers started with a 23-0 lead and never looked back as Campbellsville took down Mid-South Conference newcomer Thomas More University, 38-16.

Brandon Miller, No. 7 Marvin Galette, and No. 12 Michael Diemer all won via a pin and Aaron Rugnao earned a tech fall in the first four matches and the Tigers rolled past Thomas More after that.

Campbellsville (19-1) took the 23-0 lead before Thomas More finally got on the board with a pin at 157 by Wilder Wichman. Then it was back to the Tigers as No. 16 Chandler Woenker taking down Ryan Draugh in 1:43 at 165 pounds and No. 18 Mahlic Sallah earned a late decision, 9-6, to put CU ahead 32-6 after the 174-pound match.

Thomas More was able to pick up two wins in a row as its only ranked wrestlers earned victories. At 184 pounds, No. 9 Avery Jones pinned Jaden Sonner with one second left in the third period and No. 14 James Caniglia earned a major decision, 13-5, over David Richardson at 197 pounds.

But it was Ashton Mutuwa flexing his muscles over Tyler Kassinger with a first period fall in 1:04 to seal the win for Campbellsville.

The Tigers improve to 2-0 in Mid-South Conference duals and will now travel to University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday, Feb. 4 with a double-dual between the men's and women's programs.
