CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – An impressive debut all around for the Campbellsville men's basketball team this past Wednesday will look to be matched this weekend as the Tigers host the Lou Cunningham Classic.
The Tigers earned an 84-72 win over Kentucky Christian as CU had a balanced scoring attack with five different players in double figures.
As they head into the weekend, Campbellsville will face off against Simmons College of Kentucky and Union College on Friday and Saturday respectively as both teams will enter the classic without a game played. Union will play against University of the Cumberlands on Friday to get their first official game under their belt before facing off with the Tigers the next day.

- Matt Payton, the voice of Tiger basketball, will be on the call for the broadcast as he will be joined by CU's second all-time leading scorer and Campbellsville Hall of Famer Benji Kelly.

NEW SEASON, SAME T
- Do-it-all point guard, Taiveyhon Mason picked up right where he left off the 2019-20 season as he led the Tigers in points against KCU with 19 points.
- Mason also added five assists, five rebounds, and two steals in 32 minutes as he was able to set the tone for CU's style of play throughout the game.
- Mason led Campbellsville in points per game last season, scoring 13.5 points per game while playing and starting in all 31 games on his way to a Second Team All-MSC selection.
IMPRESSIVE DEBUTS
- Campbellsville and Tigers' fans got their first glimpse of four different newcomers to the 2020-21 roster on Wednesday night as freshman Brayden Sebastian, juniors Ross Ryan and Jay'von Jackson, and graduate transfer Taj Price all made their CU debut against KCU.
- Sebastian and Ryan started for the Tigers with Price and Jackson being the first players off the bench for head coach Brent Vernon.
- Sebastian stood out in his first collegiate game, scoring 13 poitns on 5-of-8 shooting from the field while going 3-for-6 from three-point range and adding four rebounds and three assists.
- Ryan and Price combined for a solid line down low as Ryan scored eight points while grabbing five rebounds with Price adding 10 points and a rebound.
- Jackson was a strong outside threat for the Tigers going 4-of-7 from the outside for 12 points as he was strong on the glass from his guard position, snatching six rebounds.
STRONG SECOND HALF
- Campbellsville came out of the halftime locker room with a 45-41 lead and they grew it to 18 points twice in the first eight minutes of the half going on an 18-6 run to eventually lead 65-47.
- Senior guard Jacob King had a strong second half after being held scoreless in the first half as King dropped seven points in the second 20 minutes of play while adding four assists, two rebounds, and a steal in the half.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Tigers will be on the road for the first time this season next Friday when they travel to New Albany, Ind. to face off against Indiana University Southeast on Nov. 13. CU and IUS went head to head in Campbellsville last season and the it will be the first of two meetings between these two teams this season.
