Tiger and Lady Tiger tennis sweep Midway with 7-0 wins

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Tiger and Lady Tiger tennis both finished with 7-0 victories over Midway University this weekend to start their busy schedule over spring break.

The 21^st-ranked Tigers worked back to a 2-2 record on the year, while the Lady Tigers improved to 3-1 overall.

On the men's side, the Tigers won two of the three doubles matches earning a team point. Then CU swept all six singles matches, including a three-set come-from-behind victory by Raul Safont.

Cristian Perez and Safont won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while David Carbo and Matus Sevcik won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Nicolas Andrade and Perez giving CU a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Perez winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3. Safont then rallied to earn CU's fourth point with the three-set victory to seal the dual win over Midway. Sevcik and Eric Bernabeu finished the Eagles off for good measure with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0 wins, respectively.

On the women's side, the Lady Tigers won all three doubles matches with 6-5, 6-4 and 6-1 scores.

In singles, Brenda Aguilar won 6-1, 6-3 and Rebeca Scurt won 6-1, 6-4 to put CU ahead, 3-0 overall. Like Safont for the men, Itzel Hernandez won a tiebreak third set at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-2, (10-6).

Leading now 4-0, Blaeke Mitchell, Emily Carbo and Madison Hill won their singles matches with ease to seal the win.

Campbellsville now has a busy schedule upcoming over spring break. CU will play at Middle Georgia State against the Knights and William Woods Owls on Sunday-Monday, March 1-2, respectively. Then travel to Brunswick, Ga. to battle the College of Coastal Georgia and Marian University on Wednesday, March 4.
